Faith formation news
With the permission of the former bishop, Father ST will be celebrating the
Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday, August 8, 2020.
Father has sent an email to all the parents of our Confirmation students with all the necessary
information regarding Mass and rehearsal times for Confirmation.
Our printable Registration Packet for the 2020-21 Faith Formation school year is now on our website
www.stjosephnewton.org. Your completed Registration Packet may be
dropped off at the Parish Center Office M-F 9:00am-12:00Noon or at church
(in the collection basket) when you attend Mass.
In order to properly prepare for the upcoming Faith Formation year, we ask if you would please
return your Registration Packet no later than July 26th.

Thrift shop grand reopening
The Sacrament of First Holy Communion will be celebrated on Saturday, July 18th. Parents/Guardians of our First Holy Communion students will be notified by email with the Mass and rehearsal times, as well as other important information. This will certainly be a special day for everyone!

Kindergarten Formation
We are putting together a new Faith Formation Program for the “little ones!”
This year, we will be having our first Kindergarten Faith Formation, which will meet on Mondays from 4:05-5:20pm. We will be using Loyola Press’ “Finding God; our Response to God’s Gifts” Program which is not just book work, but many activities and a snack. Come and share with your children the message of how much God loves them and how to have a real relationship with Him for many years to come.

First Holy Communion
Is Black lives Matter really anti-Catholic?
(Disclaimer: For those of you who are easily offended by the truth, I think you should skip this article).
The Most Reverend Joseph Seitz, the Bishop of El Paso, Texas, was recently at a Black Lives Matter rally on his knees, bearing a homemade sign which read: “Black Lives Matter.” Since His Excellency did not have a problem with making this public statement while wearing clerics and his pectoral cross (which only bishops may wear), I thought it was okay for me to address this matter as well (without a pectoral cross).
According to Churchmilitant.com: “BLM is a Marxist group funded by George Soros as well as many others, which promotes abortion and several other non-Catholic teachings. Killing, rioting and burning seems to be the hallmark of this “peaceful group.” And yet the Rasmussen Report stated that 62% of the U.S. population look favorably on BLM. Is it possible that all these people could be wrong in their appreciation, respect, assessment and support of this organization?
In trying to understand any person, group, or organization, I am a firm believer in listening to what they say about themselves. Therefore, I went directly to their webpage and found the following information:
Black Lives Matter was founded in 2013 by three black feminists; Alicia Garza, Patrice Collors and Opal Tometi, as a response to the shooting of Trayvon Martin (a 17-year-old African American who was killed on February 26, 2012, in Sanford, Florida). #BlackLives Matter began as a simple hashtag on Twitter, but has now become a global movement with forty (40) chapters in four (4) countries with hundreds of thousands of supporters and tens of millions of dollars in financial support.
Doctor Carol M. Swain, Ph.D., who is a former professor of political science at Vanderbilt University, recently stated that BLM has a more dismal agenda. “They have put forth an image, but actually, the things they are doing are quite different. I find it very troubling that they have been mainstreamed. Their chants, like ‘no justice, no peace,’ will never be enough. I went to their original website and it looked like it came from the Communist Manifesto, it had very little to do with black people. It was clearly Marxist and inspired overthrowing the state and it was as radical as Antifa.”
BLM’s founders have made it clear, most recently, that its group has more to do than just racial equality but about the LGBTQ+ Community as well. Patrisse Cullors, one of the co-founders of BLM (who identifies herself as a lesbian), said: “My queerness, my blackness, my womanness, shaped Black LivesMatter.” This is also true of Alicia Garza (another co-founder of BLM), who stated: “It is no coincidence that this iteration of the Black Freedom Movement is led by queer folks. It’s not a coincidence, but that does not mean it is any less challenging.” Ms. Garza continued: “This is also a movement about economic justice. This is a movement about gender and racial justice. This is a movement to reimagine what our lives can and should look like.”
According to the BLM website: “Our network centers around those who have been marginalized within Black liberation movements.” This is the same philosophy that is found in Black liberation theology, which itself finds its roots in Neo-Marxist liberation theology. This is a theology that changes the Gospel from Christian teaching into a social Gospel that finds its basis on class warfare and economic justice. According to Black Liberation Theology, the struggle is not so much between classes as it is between races.
Dr. Swain once again noted: “They change the meaning of what it is to be a white supremacist. At one time, it was a white person who thought they were superior to other racial and ethnics groups. Now, it is any white person that is white. Their whiteness is what is seen as part of their privilege and makes them feel superior. They are in the oppressor category, even if they were born and raised in Appalachia, parents who have never attended college, they could be high school dropouts...”
I think it is fair to say that BLM and the Black Panther Party (a para-military organization founded in the 1960s in response to police brutality) are similar as well. The BPP justified violence to protect African Americans and its leaders followed a communist ideology.
One of the most infamous members of the BPP is Assata Shakur, who serves as the ideological inspiration and hero for BLM (as attested to by both Alicia Garza and Patrisse Cullors). Ms. Shakur believes that socialism is an “integral part” of building up America. She is a Marxist revolutionary and a member of the Black Liberation Army. She is also on the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorist List with a two (2) million-dollar bounty on her head. Sadly, you might recall Ms. Skakur (aka Joanne Deborah Chesimard) because she shot and killed Lieutenant Mike Rinaldi, a New Jersey State Trooper in 1972 and then escaped prison in 1979 fleeing to Cuba.
So that you understand the nature and foundation of BLM, this is the type of woman which they hold in high esteem. According to Ms. Cullors (who quotes Ms. Chesimard’s words): “This is how we close our every meeting, every event, every action, every freeway we shut down, every mall we shut down, this chant is reverberated “It is our duty to win! We must love and support one another! We have nothing to lose but our chains! Black Lives Matter!”
On the BLM webpage, they state that: “We acknowledge, respect and celebrate differences and commonalities. We work vigorously for freedom and justice for Black people and, by extension, all people. We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and “villages” that collectively care for one another, especially our children, to the degree that mothers, parents, and children are comfortable. We embody and practice justice, liberation, and peace in our engagements with one another.”

Additionally, BLM is also pro-Abortion. In 2016, they partnered with reproductive justice groups to fight for Black women and to advance abortion rights. Co-founder Alicia Garza stated: “Reproductive justice is very much situated within the Black Lives Matter movement… So, we certainly understand that BLM and reproductive justice go hand in hand.”
To make matters even worse, last year, Ms. Garza paired up with Cecile Richards, CEO of Planned Parenthood, to form the group Super Majority (which trains women in political and abortion activism). Therefore, when all is said and done, it seems the black lives matter only outside the womb.
Where was His Excellency, Bishop Seitz and his brother bishops, kneeling with homemade signs that said: “Babies’ lives matter?” Where was the venerable bishop “taking a knee” at the Pro-Life rally in Washington, DC for the lives of the unborn? When have the United States bishops ever taken a knee for anything other than that which the Democratic Party holds near and dear to their hearts and pocketbooks? Maybe because the Democratic Party (which a majority of U.S. Bishops claim to be) receive a huge amount of money given to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops each and every year to accomplish such great “Non-Catholic” issues (because by law, they are not allowed to use this money for “Catholic things”).
Maybe their Excellencies should pay attention to the words spoken by Pope Francis taken from Evangeli Gaudium: 2. The political realities of our nation present us with opportunities and challenges. We are a nation founded on ‘life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,’ but the right to life itself is not fully protected, especially for unborn children, the terminally ill, and the elderly, the most vulnerable members of the American family. We are called to be peacemakers in a nation at war. We are a country pledged to pursue ‘liberty and justice for all,’ but we are too often divided across lines of race, ethnicity, and economic inequality.” Therefore, it seems logical and most Christian, that not only do “Black Lives Matter” but maybe more correctly, more Christ-like, more Catholic, that “All Lives Matter” from the womb to the tomb.
Now for their funding: In Washington, DC, the Democracy Alliance Donor Club Democrats have promised to fund BLM. The DADC is an organization that was founded by George Soros (a self-proclaimed atheist) and has become very closely aligned with the Democratic Party, which gives lots of money to Democratic candidates. To date, Mr. Soros has given over thirty-three (33) million dollars to BLM.
BLM is also funded by “ActBlue” which is also a fundraising arm of the Democratic Party (e.g., Bernie Sanders received $186,000+, Joe Biden $119,000, Elizabeth Warren, $93,000, etc.) Interesting that when you click on the “donate” button from the BLM website, it actually directs you to ActBlue to make your donation.
Ultimately, BLM is supposedly all about those who oppress and those who are victimized. They certainly will never move from this position, why? As I have often said: “Follow the money!”
Having researched and printed all of this, am I the only one that wonders why the Catholic hierarchy and many priests support this organization? Does it not cause anyone pause to think that the Archbishop of Washington (Wilton Gregory) “urged” all his priests to join the Archdiocesan anti-racist rally (which was the same time and location as the BLM protest)? These questions are not based on the color of anyone’s skin, but on the value of human life, IN ALL ITS COLORS!!!
The United States bishops and clergy are not the only ones that should hide their heads in shame. Bishops from the United Kingdom also express their support and “solidarity” with Black Lives Matter (The Tablet) as part of the “Catholic teaching against racism.”
Throughout the history of the Catholic Church, She has always condemned racism and injustice against many groups of people and individuals. However, based upon the foundation of BLM, can the Church truly become partners with such other organizations like Planned Parenthood, the Democracy Alliance Club and ActBlue (just to name a few)? Can the Catholic Church truly be a part of a group that yells: “Pigs in a blanket. Fry ‘em like bacon” or spray paint on toppled down statues: “Kill Whitey??”
Again, it is pretty simple to me that this organization, from its foundation and founders, is anything but Christian, never mind Catholic. Therefore, Bishop Seitz needs to get off his knee and get on his knees and pray for his public display of supporting a non-Christian, non-Catholic organization. Why? Because I think they call it a public scandal.
Pray for our Police! Pray for our crooked politicians! Pray for our wayward priests, bishops, archbishops and cardinals! Pray for those who have been killed in the name of BLM, especially the many black children who were killed in their mother’s wombs and those who have been killed in the streets in the name of BLM. Pray for peace and unity! Pray for the Christian nation of America, for I believe that it is still “One nation, under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all” no matter what the color of your skin happens to be!
