On Monday, December 16, 2019, our Diocese will join the Archdiocese of New York in celebrating Advent Reconciliation Monday. On this special day, all the parishes of our dioceses will offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, in preparation for the great Feast of the Lord’s Nativity.
Today’s second collection is for the Retirement Fund for Religious. Thousands of senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests spent years working in Catholic schools, hospitals, and agencies—often for little or no pay. Now, their reli-gious communities do not have enough savings for retirement and eldercare. Your gift to the Retirement Fund for Religious helps provide medications, nursing care, and more. Almost 94 percent of donations aid senior religious. Please be generous.

Munera: Teach, Govern, and Sanctify.
Our Church and our faith are currently going through a major crisis of disbelief in the Holy Eucharist truly being the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ. Reports are saying that 30% of church goers do not believe in what Holy Communion actually is! In many ways I am sur-prised and in many ways I am not. The way in which the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is offered in some places in defiantly sad. So many “Catholic” hymns sing of bread instead of the Body of Christ which causes a weak belief. And the way in which some faithful receive Holy Communion does not al-ways express the belief in what Holy Communion truly is. How many times do I see people receiving Jesus in the hand and the Sacred Host getting put into their mouth the same way they would pop pills! What kind of belief does this show and express? And above all, over a 100 year period we have been taught about the importance of regularly receiving Holy Communion but, it cannot be forgotten that if a person wants to receive Holy Communion regu-larly then they must go to Confession just as regu-larly! It must also be said that your participation in the Mass does not require you to receive Holy Com-munion, our obligation is to attend Mass on Sun-days and Holy Days but not to receive Holy Com-munion unless we are properly prepared to do so, primarily by going to Confession first. Many of you would remember the days when the lines for Con-fession on Saturdays were long; not anymore! Jesus, who is the Bread of Life was born in Bethle-hem which means House of Bread. And before Jesus touched the soil of Bethlehem He was in the sinless womb of Mary who by a singular grace was pre-served from sin by Her Immaculate Conception in the Womb of Her mother St. Ann; the feast we cele-brate on December the 8th, this year due to it being a Sunday, will be celebrated Liturgically on the 9th. As we prepare to “Journey to Bethlehem” for Christ-mas 2019 may we take these Advent days as an op-portunity to examine our belief in the Most Blessed Sacrament and the way in which we receive Jesus? “Here We Come A-Caroling” this Friday, December 13 our parish choir will take to our neighborhood streets and sing carols beginning at 7:30PM. If you would like to walk with the choir please meet at the church or perhaps you might meet us as we walk around streets. In Christ, Fr. Saffron
