SACRED HEART CHURCH PAGE 2 September 8, 2019
We hope that all new residents will come to the Parish Center to register.
Adult Christian Initiation If you are interested in exploring the Catholic faith or completing your initiation into the Church please call
the Parish Center.
Infant Baptism Preparation If you wish to arrange a baptism at Sacred Heart Church, please
contact the Parish Center at 516-379-1356 X10. One of our baptism coordinators will be happy to arrange a
time to meet with you. This conversation provides an opportunity to discuss the Baptism ceremony as well as
set a date for the sacrament. Ideally, both Godparents should be practicing Catholics. We will review the
procedures for the sacrament and you will be able to fill out all the necessary paperwork. Baptisms are held on
the first and third Sunday of each month at 2pm in the church. First time parents need to attend a Baptism
Class. They are held on the last Monday of each month in the church at 7:30pm. Crying babies welcome!
Godparents are encouraged but not required to attend.
Sacrament of Matrimony Please contact the Parish Center at least one year in advance of the
intended date of the wedding. A priest of the parish will interview you, set the wedding date and help you
register for the required marriage preparation program (Pre-Cana).
Sacrament of Reconciliation A priest is available each Saturday at 4:00 P.M. in the Church.
Please don’t hesitate to call a priest at the Parish Center for an appointment for Confession at another time.
Sacraments for the Homebound If you or a family member are not able to attend Mass due
to temporary or chronic illness, and would like to receive the Sacraments of Communion,
Reconciliation and/or Anointing of the Sick please call the Parish Center.

If the announced intention at Mass is for your intention, or if you have memorialized the bread and wine, and you would like to
carry those offerings forward at the Presentation of the Gifts during Mass,
please be sure to let the ushers know this before the Mass begins. They will be happy
to have you do this. If no one steps forward to specifically
request this, then they will select people from the assembly.

Let us remember all our parishioners who have been
called home to our Loving God. We especially remember
Jennifer McNamara
The Altar Flowers for this week are in honor of our
Blessed Mother
Twice a year, in February and August, one lucky
member of the Frances Blake 300 Club has a
chance to receive a check for $1,000. In each of
the other ten months of the year Club members
have 13 chances to win a prize ranging from
$15 to $300.
Membership is only $30 for 6 months! That’s only
$5 a month! For more information, please call Jean
at the Pastoral Center (379-1356 ext. 21).
PB and J
We will have our last
Monday night P B and J
meeting (till after
Thanksgiving) on Monday
September 9 at 7:00 pm. After that we will be
meeting on TUESDAY nights at 7:00 to make
room for the Alpha program that will be taking
place in the cafeteria from September 16 through
Thanksgiving.
Everyone wanting to help make sandwiches should
bring 1-2 loaves of bread. Other items that we
need are smooth peanut butter, jelly or jam, plastic
sandwich bags (fold overs preferred), dollar store
table cloths, basic cleaning supplies, paper towels,
hand soap and copy paper boxes.
Blessing Bags:
The Babylon Interfaith Homeless Initiative houses
those in need from the first Wednesday in Decem-
ber till the last Wednesday in March. We have
been asked to supply them with 700 (gallon size)
ziplock bags with the following items: wash
cloths, toothpaste, tooth brushes, soap, shampoo,
disposable razors, shave cream, deodorant. Op-
tional items: conditioner, combs, chapstick and
tissues. Since wash cloths are on the higher ends
of some folks budgets, we will take gently used,
clean towels that we can cut to wash cloth size.
Store cards are also greatly appreciated for both P
B and J or the Blessing Bags.
We will be putting these bags together sometime in
October, date to be announced. Many thanks for
your ongoing generosity!

Prayer For Safety of Our Service
Men & Women Almighty and Eternal God, protect these men and women as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety to all who love them. May they ever praise you for your loving care.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. =====================================
A note about low gluten/gluten free hosts:
Hosts that are completely gluten-free are
invalid matter for the celebration of the Eucharist.
The hosts we use at Sacred Heart are not gluten
free. However, they are made of wheat starch
(wheat flour from which much of the gluten protein
has been removed) plus water. It’s gluten content is
<.001% or 10ppm.
The church considers “low-gluten” hosts to
have enough gluten to be “valid matter,” the F.D.A.
says the hosts are low enough in gluten to be
considered gluten-free. But, those with high
sensitivity should consult their doctors.
