Parish Activities

ALTAR SERVER TRAINING! Altar server training for the 2019–2020 school year will be held Sunday, October 13 following the 11:30 a.m. Mass. New servers entering grade 4 and older are invited to attend. Current altar servers will receive important updates at this training. One important change is that we will train all servers to ring the bells during the Eucharistic Prayer. We are always looking to add to our roster of adult servers. Please consider helping with this important ministry! If you have any questions, please contact Joe Conroy via email: [email protected].

EMHC TRAINING! There will be two training sessions for new Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. The first will be on Sunday October 20th, following the 11:30 Mass. The second will be on Tuesday, October 22, beginning at 7:00 p.m. We will meet at the Church’s Welcome Center. This includes Anglo, Latino, and members of our High School Youth program who qualify for this training. The minimum requirements are that you are a practicing Catholic, 16 years of age, who has received all 3 Sacraments of Initiation. Fr. Mark Summers will address the assembly regarding the significance of this ministry, while Mike Romeo will lead the training session. Please allow 1.5 hours for this training session. Feel free to email me at [email protected] with any questions that you may have, and thank you for your support of this important ministry. Note that current ministers are not required to, but are welcome to attend.

WOMEN'S HEALTH CLINIC PRAYER VIGIL: St. Peter Parishioners will be participating in a silent prayer vigil on Sunday, October 6, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The vigil will take place in front of the Founder's Women's Health Center, 1243 East Broad Street. There will be folding chairs for anyone who is not able to stand for an hour. Please consider joining the faithful parishioners to show your support for the dignity of life. To schedule a time, please contact Ed and Marti Foster at 614-459-4373 or by email at [email protected].

THANK YOU! The Parish Life Committee would like to say a BIG THANK-YOU to everyone who donated desserts, toys and stuffed animals and who volunteered to help with set-up, dessert table, raffle table, kitchen, games, prize table and clean-up for the Parish Picnic. We very much appreciated having so many wonderful volunteers and donations! A BIG THANK-YOU goes out to the Knights of Columbus for hosting BINGO, manning the beer table and help with set-up and tear-down. Thank you to all of the committees for so generously donating a basket for the raffle. The raffle adds to the fun of the day! If your committee or family would like to donate a basket for next year's picnic, it would be very much appreciated.

THE NEXT BLOODMOBILE coming to St. Peter will be here on October 14th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. It is time to prayerfully consider joining your fellow parishioners in this life-saving event. Each unit of blood donated has the potential to save three lives. We need new donors to replace some longtime donors who have had to stop due to health issues. Will you answer God's call? The world’s 15 year experiment with euthanasia has gone terribly wrong. This film is a dire warning for the rest of the world. The Euthanasia Deception is a one-hour documentary featuring powerful testimonies from Belgium and beyond of those devastated by the false ideology of ‘mercy killing’.

The film sets out to expose three main deceptions of doctor assisted dying: First, that euthanasia and assisted suicide are a form of compassion. The second is the myth of autonomy: that decisions made between doctor and patient operate in a vacuum. And finally, that government ‘safeguards’ can truly protect the vulnerable.

Testimonies include: Prof. Tom Mortier, whose depressed mother was euthanized without his knowledge; Hendrick, whose granddad’s death was ‘hastened’ without request - years before his time; “James”, who regrets family pressure to euthanize his mother; Lionel, who is routinely asked by Belgian strangers why he will not euthanize his severely disabled daughter; Mark, an MS survivor, grateful there was no law allowing him to kill himself when he was diagnosed; and Kristina, a nurse who shares her remorseful experience with assisted death.

With expert analysis from both medical and legal professions, the film reveals the serious, long-term implications of assisted dying laws, and proves that all of us become vulnerable when end-of-life care is handed over to lawmakers.

Following the film screening, special guest speaker Beth Vanderkooi will provide an overview of the status of assisted suicide legislation, including anticipated Ohio legislation.
