June 30, 2014 Dear St. Philip Neri Parishioners,

This is the Quarterly Report of the progress that our Parish and our Parish Pastoral

Council is making on the goals we, as a parish, set out in our Mission and Vision Statement. As before, you will find the Mission and Vision statement in regular font, while the actions we

have undertaken in this type font. I invite you to read this through and, if you have any comments or questions, please feel free to contact me @ 306-651-0518 or email at [email protected].

St. Philip Neri Parish – Mission & Vision Statements

2011-2016

MISSION STATEMENT

“Joyfully Building Up The Church”

VISION STATEMENT

Through God’s Grace, St. Philip Neri is committed to its mission by being actively involved in the ongoing faith development of our parish community, our local community and beyond.

Over the next FIVE YEARS our community will achieve the following goals:

1) Create a vibrant parish community by facilitating faith development; a) We will enhance our liturgies and music ministry by installing a new sound system by 2013

i) The project to refurbish the windows in the church is being given top priority. As the building is now fifty years old, the wooden window frames require extensive work. Quotations for repair have been requested and will be looked at by both the Building Committee and the Finance Committee so that a plan for restoration can be formulated and put into practice. This may have to be done in stages as both need and finances dictate.

ii) The Family Room at the back of the church is to receive attention so as to make it more attractive to those needing to use it. A wall mural is planned to add colour and interest.

b) We will purchase a house to be used as a rectory and turn our present rectory into main floor meeting spaces by 2016. i) While this initiative remains a part of our Mission and Vision statement, it is some-

thing we will act upon as finances allow.

2) Build parish community; a) We will increase the number of Small Christian Communities in our parish from 2 – 4 groups.

i) There is one active Small Christian Community that meet on a weekly basis, it is planned to have more groups as leadership emerges. At this time we have not found leadership for a second group. One group was active all year but has discontinued for the summer months. This group plans to be active again in the fall.

b) We will actively engage our youth by sponsoring annual missionary projects. i) Due to several circumstances there is no active youth group at this time, however,

there is interest in an adult group making at least one more trip to Fort Providence to honour our three year commitment. This may not happen during the summer of 2014.

ii) Youth activities in the parish are under- going a reformation process due in part to the departure of our Youth Coordinator. It is hoped to develop a steering Commit-tee of parents and interested parishioners to formulate a plan for future youth groups and activities.

3) In a response to Christ’s call to touch our world, we will engage our parish community in intentional outreach; a) St. Philip Neri will support the needy of our city by supporting “The Bridge on 20th” in the following ways:

i) We will contribute funds returned to us from the BAA appeal and our Holy Thursday collection (total capped at $10,000) annually to the Bridge on 20

th.

The Diocese has been able to refund our portion of 2013 BAA ‘in excess of goal‘ so that our commitment to Bridge on 20th may be met.

ii) We will recruit and commission parishioners to serve as volunteers at The Bridge on 20th iii) We will seek to have a role in the governance of The Bridge on 20th

The excitement at Bridge on 20th is great these days as they prepare to renovate and move to their newly purchased building. Our prayers for continued success are requested.

b) St. Philip Neri will support the efforts of Catholic Family services in creating affordable housing for one at risk family by contributing $500.00 per month thus allowing a family to remain in the same residence for five years. i) Through Catholic Family Services we receive very positive reports that the family we

support by helping with rent continues to make progress in becoming self-sufficient. Some serious health issues came up for the parent resulting in a temporary set-back. At last report the health issues were under control. Appreciation for our continued help has again been expressed.

ii) In the last Diocesan bulletin there was mention made of this project with the hope that more parishes might join us.

c) St. Philip Neri will have a Refugee Committee of at least 12 active members. We will sponsor 2 families over the next 5 years. i) The Refugee Committee have become aware of a Christian Pakistani family here in

Saskatoon who has family members much in need of sponsorship to a place of safety. Our committee is trying to prepare the necessary paperwork in time to be processed for their sponsorship to Canada and be united with their family in Saskatoon. This family consists of a father and three girls aged 8, 10 and 12. A big thank you must be extended to the Refugee Committee for their patience and hard work in getting the paperwork completed as this is very labour intensive.
