Apostles Creed: “I Believe in the Forgiveness of Sins”!
1.Sin is a personal act which offends God, spiritually harms
the sinner and others. It can be a thought, a word, a desire
and a deed. There are also sins of omission when we do
not do what we should. 2.The First sin, commi ed by
Adam and Eve, was ORIGINAL SIN. 3. In Adam and Eve,
original sin was a personal sin. 4.Everyone born into the
world, except Jesus and Mary, inherits original sin. Mary
was conceived without sin as a special privilege called the
IMMACULATE CONCEPTION. Jesus was conceived without
sin because he is God and because he was ...!
conceived though the power of the Holy Spirit. 5.In us
original sin is the depriva2on of original holiness and
jus2ce: sanc2fying grace. 6.Original sin is removed by
bap2sm. 7. A7er original sin, many other sins were
commi ed. These personal sins of Adam’s descendants
are called ACTUAL SIN. 8.Actual sins are sins commi ed by
a person and are either MORTAL or VENIAL. 9.Mortal sin is
commi ed when someone knowingly and in full freedom
seriously violates one of God’s commandments. 10.
Mortal sins are forgiven through the sacrament of
penance. 11. Venial sin is a less serious offense against
God.!Sin is an offense against reason, truth and right
conscience: it is failure in genuine love for God and
neighbor caused by a perverse a achment to certain
goods. It wounds the nature of man and injures human
solidarity. (CCC no. 1849). Although set by God in a state
of rec2tude, man en2ced by the evil one abused his
freedom at the very start of history. He li7ed himself up
against God and sought to a ain his goal apart from him.
Pastoral Cons2tu2on on the Church In the modern world,
no.13).!Therefore, just as through one person sin entered the
world, and through sin death, and thus death came to all,
in as much as all sinned. (Rom!5:12). Although it is proper
to each individual, original sin does not have the character
of a personal fault in any of Adam’s descendants. It is a
depriva2on of original holiness and jus2ce. (CCC, no. 13).!From his concep2on, Christ’s humanity is filled with the
Holy Spirit (CCC, no.504). The most Blessed Virgin Mary
was, from the first moment of her concep2on, by a
singular grace and privilege of almighty God and by virtue
of the merits of Jesus Christ, Saviour of the human race,
preserved immune from all stain of original sin. (CCC,
no.491).!

The OLF Ladies Guild is sad to report the
passing of one of our dearest farmer
members, Bette Miller. Bette’s funeral will be
held here at OLF on Wednesday, August 1 at
noon. There will be no calling hours, but the
Ladies Guild will be hosting a reception in
our parish hall following the Mass. We hope
you will be able to join us to share your
memories with her family and friends.
“Since God knew that man is enticed by
favors, he wished to bind him to his love
by means of His gifts: ‘I want to catch men
and women with the snares, the chains of
love in which they allow themselves to be
entrapped, so that they will love me.’ And
all the gifts which he bestowed on human
beings were given to this end.” St. Alphon-
sus Liguori (his feast falls on August 1st).!
