• The Translation from roman to English Regia meaning Kings house.
PurposePurpose• It was originally the residence of the kings of Rome or at
least their main headquarters
• The Secondary use of Regia was for administrative purposes for the pontifex maximus
• It also became The office of Rex Sacrorum was created to
continue the religious duties of the kings.
• The Regia was originally the residence of the kings of Rome or at least their main headquarters, and later the office of the Pontifex Maximus, the high priest of Roman religion.
Design of Regia
• A large quantity of Gold was used on building of Regia until it was destroyed in a fire but this just made the second one more decorative and had a vast amount of statues
• It states that Within the Regia was the massive archives which were maintained with information pertaining to war, prodigies, calamaties and so forth.
• These were used to interpret omens and to close down government actions if needed.
Location• Its position, directly north-west of the aedes Vestae, is
made certain by the existing ruins
• the Regia was physically cut off from the main square of the forum, leaving it in a much less conspicuous location.

It occupied an area between the Temple of Vesta, the Temple of Divus Julius and Temple of Antoninus and Faustina in the Forum Romanum. According to ancient tradition it was build by the second king of Rome, Numa Pompilius.

Late Republic• The Regia was one of Rome’s most prominent
buildings from the earliest of times, all the way through the late republic.
• After the downfall of the city of Rome and its remaining empire in the fifth century, the physical remainder of the Regia lived on after being converted to a private residence or also known as a place to live in the 7th and 8th Century
• Its survival even past that of one of the greatest empires to have ever existed which displays the importance and prominence of this centerpiece of the ancient city of Rome.
Interesting Information• The Regia is said to have been constructed by Rome’s
second great leader, King Numa Pompilius (the successor of Romulus) in the fifth century BC, to serve as his residence.
• Numa is also well known for his notion of establishing the vestal virgins, a key component in the preservation of the Regia itself
• There was a time where the Regia became more of a
public religious venue for rituals and posts
• the Regia was believed to have been destroyed by fire four times
• Due to its location, the Regia is an unusual shape, almost pentagonal
Modern Equivalent
• Kirribilli House is the official Sydney residence of the Australian Prime Minister. The house is located at the far eastern end of Kirribilli Avenue in the suburb of Kirribilli.
• The property was used by the staff of the Governor-General until 1930 when it was leased to tenants. In 1956 Kirribilli House was set aside as a residence for the official use of Prime Ministers, when they need to perform official duties and extend official hospitality when in Sydney.
