NICKI MINAJPINK FRIDAY: ROMAN RELOADED

PF: ROMAN RELOADED ALBUM COVERThe shot used for the album mid-shot. Nicki Minaj is smothered in paint and make-up as she poses with her arms rested on her head. The name of the album and Minaj’s name is placed below the image of her. The Deluxe Edition label is placed above the image of Minaj.

The album cover doesn’t feature any props, as she is rolling around in coloured paint and is only dressed in her underwear.

The photograph has been airbrushed to improve Nicki Minaj’s appearance and to make the paint and her body look polished. Minaj’s status as a sex symbol has been reinforced in this album cover as she poses in her underwear in this photo shoot.

Nicki Minaj is looking straight at the camera with colourful make-up covering the colour of her usual complexion. The colours used on the front cover connect to the music being more happier and energetic as Minaj felt that she no longer had to prove herself as only a rapper and she felt confident in the fact that she could now show the world her singing abilities.

The cover art is very colourful, with paint all over the background walls and Nicki herself. The text used for her name and the first part of the album name is the text used for Nicki’s other albums. However the Roman Reloaded part is in a completely different font that clashes with the other. The album cover is a little

bit “all over the place” possibly representing Minaj’s versatility as an artist which is also displayed through the music on the album. Half of the music is Hip-Hop/R&B which is what she is known for. The other half is Pop music which isn’t the genre Minaj usually delves into.

PF: ROMAN RELOADED BACK COVERThe back cover features another photograph of Nicki Minaj with paint and make-up on her face. This image is a close-up shot and she looks more composed than on the image on the front cover. The background has paint all over it. The back cover still uses the same colours and fonts.

The tracklist is located underneath the image of Minaj. It doesn’t include a track running time but it does include a track number. The text is written all in capitals making it easy for people of all ages to read. Unlike many other back covers, this one lists the tracks vertically in justified text on the same line.

We liked how the back cover is unusual to many other back covers that we have looked at as part of our research. We would like our back cover to be different from other but still do its job, which this back cover successfully does.

The back cover includes small images of the record labels, the names of the executive producers and copyright information. This is usually to credit and to show gratitude to those involved in the creation of the album. All the text is written in pink font, linking with the album name. The copyright information is written in smaller text as usual.

The back cover includes a bar-code which is when the product is scanned through when somebody is purchasing the album.

The back cover also lists the record labels website and Nicki Minaj’s website so that fans can stay updated with new information.

PF: ROMAN RELOADED CD COVER

The CD cover has the same image of Minaj but the back cover has. However it has a pink water-colour effect on it. It is placed on the left hand side of the CD.

The copyright information is repeated on the inside outline of the CD in grey text so that the information is not confusing or hard to read.

The artist, the name of the album, the record label and the websites are all repeated on the left-hand side of the CD. This is a convention of many other CD covers, reminding the reader of how to obtain new information from the record label and Nicki Minaj.

Nicki Minaj’s record labels are repeated on the right hand side of the CD, to reinforce and show respect for them.

The CD has small print text underneath the name of the album. It encourages the owner of the disc to insert the CD into their computer to receive bonus content.
