JULY 16TH
FEAST OF OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL
Brown Scapular Enrollment
On October 13, 1917, Our Lady appeared for the sixth and last time to the shepherd children
at Fatima, Portugal as Our Lady of Mount Carmel holding the brown scapular in her hand.
After the 12 noon Mass, Fr. Robert will enroll
all those who wish to be enrolled into the confraternity of the Brown Scapular.
Thought For This Week
Jesus may not keep us from the storm,
but He will surely get us through the storm!
(..and He will eventually bring something good from that storm.)
Respect Life Prayer
Lord, please help us to be there for those in their last days. Help us to show compassion to each of
them, and always respect their dignity. As they leave this world and enter into Your loving embrace,
please let their last vision be one of compassion and hope.
The Eucharist
Thank you, Jesus, for the gift of Yourself in the
Eucharist—our food for the journey of life!
Words from Pope Francis
A little girl, Alejandra from Peru, asked Pope Francis this question:
Dear Pope Francis: “If God loves us so much and didn’t want us to suffer, why didn’t He defeat the devil?”
Pope Francis responded:
“God has defeated the devil, and He did it on the cross. He defeated the devil, but in his own way. The devil is
a loser and has been defeated. Do you know how dragons are? They have a very long tail, and even if they have been
killed, they continue to shake that tail for a while. What happened to the devil is like what happens to big and scary
dragons that are defeated and killed. Their long tail moves and can still cause damage…..Jesus’ death defeated death.
The devil is a loser—don’t forget it! He is like a dragon or a dangerous dinosaur that wags its tail for a while even if
it’s already dead.” (From: Dear Pope Francis—The Pope Answers Letters from Children Around the World)
A Scripture to Ponder..
“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy burdened,
and I will give you rest.”
(Matthew 11:28)

Just a Thought…
A Little Humor
Do you know why grown-ups are always asking
little kids what they want to be when they grow up?
It’s because they’re looking for ideas!

Food Donations
Thank you for all of your generous donations to our
St. Mark’s Food Pantry.
Your generosity is appreciated by so many families!
Blessings on all of you!!
When fear knocks at your door,
imagine you’re sitting in your living room
having a nice chat with Jesus…..
Just say to your big Brother—-
“Jesus, would you answer that?”

2017 Catholic Ministries Appeal
One Faith, Family, Community
“Faith is not a light which shatters all our darkness, but a lamp which guides our steps in the night and suffices for
the journey”
-Pope Francis
Dear Parishioners:
Lauren believes her involvement in Youth Ministry has been one of the most important things she has ever done.
“Youth ministry will change your life. There will be a time when you have a really bad week and you come to the group
meeting and you just share, you open your heart and let everyone in – you let Jesus’ love in. You feel so much better
and you know that everything is going to be ok. Having a relationship with God is something that helps you through
rough times and makes you grateful for the good times,” shared Lauren
`
Your gifts to the Catholic Ministries Appeal ensure that young people like Lauren can develop a relationship with God
that will lead to a life of prayer and service, coupled with the support and socialization of other young people who
embrace the same Church and values.
Every day the world offers our children choices that challenge their faith. The Catholic Ministries Appeal is so
important in supporting ministries and programs that involve our children. Are you aware that collectively parish-based
religious education programs serve more than 100,000 of our young people in public schools? Similarly, campus and
young adult ministry programs serve more than 7,000 each month.
Please know that I thank you most sincerely for your consideration of this special request to make a gift to the 2017
Catholic Ministries Appeal. Please know that no gift is too small and every gift makes a difference in the choices that
our young people make.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Fr. Jeff
Youth Ministry in our Parishes helps
guide our young people on their faith
journey and empowers them to live
as disciples of Jesus Christ in the
world today!
