Location
Romania is located at the crossroads
of Central, Eastern, and South-eastern
Europe.
It’s neighbours are:
✓ Bulgaria to the South
✓ Ukraine to the North
✓ Hungary to the West
✓ Serbia to the Southwest
✓ Moldova to the East
✓ and has its opening to the Black Sea
Geography
Romania is the largest country in South-eastern Europe and the twelfth-largest in Europe.
The Carpathian Mountains dominate the
centre of Romania, with 14 mountain ranges.
Natural and semi-natural ecosystems cover
about 47% of the country's land area
There are 10,000 km2 of protected areas in
Romania covering 13 national parks and three
biosphere reserves.
Romania has one of the largest areas of
undisturbed forest in Europe, covering almost
27% of its territory
The Danube Delta, is the second-largest and best-preserved delta in Europe, and is a
biosphere reserve and a biodiversity World
Heritage Site
The Danube Delta is the largest continuous marshland in Europe, and supports 1,688
different plant species alone
About 50% of Europe's brown bears and 20% of
its wolves live in Romania’s forests
