What is a Disciple?

• The term occurs frequently in the N.T.

• The meaning is one who is a learner.

• One who is a follower of His teachings.

• It denotes one who obeys His commands.

“If you hold to my teaching, you are truly my disciples.”

John 8:31

What can save us from our SIN?

• The word Gospel means: “Good News!”

What is this Gospel?

• What is the “Gospel?” Some say it’s the entire Bible Some say it’s the 1st four books of N.T. Some say it’s John 3:16 Some say it’s God’s Plan of Salvation

The Bible interprets itself!

“I declare to you the gospel …

• and that He was buried,

• that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

• and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.”

For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received:

1 Corinthians 15:1-4

by this gospel you are saved …

Who Will Be Saved?

“Although He was a Son, He learned obedience

from what He suffered, and once made perfect, He became the source of eternal salvation

for all who obey Him.”

Who Will Escape God’sVengeance & Destruction?

“When the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey

the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting

destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of

His power.” 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9

How do we “obey the gospel”?

• This does not say believe the gospel.

How does one obey His:

Romans 6:3

Do you not know that as many of us who were baptized into Christ

Jesus were baptized into his death?

Romans 6:4We were buried with him

through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was

raised from the death through the glory of the Father, we also

may live a new life.

Romans 6:5If we have been

united with Him in His death, we will certainly also be

united with him in his resurrection.

Romans 6:6-7For we know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be

done away with, that we should no longer be

slaves to sin-- because anyone who has died

has been freed from sin.

Galatians 3:26-27 You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

Romans 8:10-11

And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.

If Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness.

“Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ so

that your sins may be forgiven.”
