characteristics of the Renaissance, one
individualism and the other classicism.
Individualism is highlighted through Friar
Laurence’s comparison between the natural and
human world, and Classicism through Raphael’s
choice to include several specific ties to ancient
Greece. The inclusion of these enhances the
audience’s understanding of each piece, and their
message of valuing the individual and knowledge
of the past.
