For added pop just where we want it, we mill channels in our cores and insert thin rods of carbon and glass. In Mods, HotRods have always extended to the contact point of the board for loading energy straight into where you want it. We’ve added this in Agents, Reverbs and Crossrocket so the HotRods extend to where you can see them protrude from the top sheet for more pop in those models. Great for all boards; essential for adding kick to rocker models.

One of the key ways we control the power transfer within each board. The pressure and torque built under the bindings is harnessed and directed to specifi c contact points by the use of uniquely shaped plates of Kevlar, Basalt, and Glass. We have two patterns to control power:

These are not mere grip bumps. QuickRip features one mid-section sidecut and another sidecut in the nose and tail that is off-set from the mid-section sidecut. All sidecuts have the same radius. Where these sidecuts intersect, two Mid-Board Contact Points are cre-ated. These Mid-Board Contact points serve as the end points of the running length at slow speeds, and then at high speeds their contour serves as added edge control. The result is one board that “rides short” and “rides long”. Playful at slower speeds and powerful at high speeds.

Bambooster Technology: Some of the most responsive materials can be found directly from Mother Nature. Bamboo is highly reactive and we harness the power of

its fibers by removing wood and laying in rods of bamboo to channel pop to specific areas.

ButterOut Transition Zones: Back when Rome launched 10+ years ago, we

introduced a concept called “Profiled Transition Zones” where we controlled the length and shape of transition zones to adjust board feel. ButterOut Transition Zones are the 2013 incarnation of this

Boards that line up an hour early for fi rst chair. Boards that save up their scratch for a trip to Baldface. Boards that skin up because they know they will have bottomless untracked all to themselves. Cambers and geometries keep these boards fl oating in the light stuff, while pop-enhancing technologies give them tail power to slash, ollie and land larger drops.

Boards that believe that the essence of snowboard-ing is the carve and the feeling of a clean, powerful turn. Geometries, cambers and technologies combine to create boards that love to etch S-shaped lines in corduroy or powder. Throw in a roller ollie or method? Sure, but these decks care much more about what comes between all the hits.

We originally developed the NoHang-Ups 3D base contour concept while looking to speed-up the learning curve for new snowboarders—the objective was to create a design that would actually develop advanced riding skills on the first day, rather than just make it less punishing. While we did care about reducing edge catches, we were also focused on adding performance characteristics that helped riders develop edge control and directional control at the same time.

It wasn’t far into the testing of this new concept that we saw that the NoHang-Upsprototypes had potential beyond beginner boards. Specifically, they positively addressed many of the limitations inherent with rocker camber designs—a lack of directional stability, lack of precision, a general low-energy feeling, and the diminished ollie pop.

Moving into the development of the 2013 line, we prototyped multiple variations of NoHang-Ups 3D camber mixed with the usual board design parameters of flex, sidecut, waist width, running length, etc. The foundation of the NoHang-Ups technology is the Diamond platform. We experimented with the Diamond’s shape (sharper, blunter,wider, narrower, longer, shorter), and the Diamond’s camber profile (rocker, flat and even positive camber). Outside the Diamond platform, we played with different degrees of convexity (3D camber profiling) as well as where it began on the running surface ofthe board and where it terminated in the tips and tails.

Personally the biggest surprise while testing these boards was when some of the NoHang-Ups prototypes performed better than the positive camber in situations where I find positive camber boards to be more predictable and confidence-inspiring than rocker boards. For me, positive camber boards are more stable and precise than rocker designs—two characteristics I particularly rely on when riding fast switch and while riding through areas of broken up, choppy snow. While at Snowbird last May, a section of the slope we were testing on had been crossed by a heavy spring powdersluff between runs. I came into the section very fast riding switch on a NoHang-Upsprototype with a positive camber Diamond and was surprised by the suddenly variable snow conditions. Rather than me losing control through this section as I expected was about to happen, the board maintained directional stability and was responsive and incredibly forgiving as I adjusted my balance and steered through the choppy section.

Everyone remembers their fi rst snowboard; walking into the shop and analyzing every deck, waiting for one to call out your name.

The Syndicate has always focused on the expression of those people who live

snowboarding; testers, designers, the in-house crew, reps, locals in resort towns all over, and team

riders. It’s a collective process involving a diversity of people who put snowboarding ahead of pretty much

everything else in life.

Since our start we have never released “pro model” product. Instead, we have invited our team to help shape the designs, technology, and art of each

product in the Rome collection. The entire SDS line is a culmination of snowboard ideas inspired by team riders and other shreds in the Syndicate.

Heat-Moldable Body:Our liners can be heat-molded to take the shape of

your ankle, forefoot and calf. Here’s how:

Expanded Toe Zone:An elastic material forms the toe of the liner;

allowing any toe size to feel comfortable and less “crowded” for a full day of riding. Toe comfort is the premise of this technology.

1. Remove the footbeds from inside the liners.2. Place programmable heaters into your boots with your liners still in your shells.3. Set the temperature to 355 degrees Fahrenheit/ 180 degrees Celsius and heating time to 15 minutes.4. Have foam toe caps placed on your toes with nylons pulled on top to hold the toe

caps in place if you want more wiggle room in your toes. 5. Once the machine sounds, quickly place your feet into the boots, lace up, and stand still for 10 minutes. 6. Replace footbeds after the heat molding process is complete.
