My name is Lorna Turner; I am a volunteer at RSCC. Things you may not know about me:I was born on 9 March, 1936 on a farm in Dundee. I moved to Johannesburg in 1978 from Natal and currently stay in Thornhill Manor retirement village. I met my husband Norman playing golf at the Wanderers and have been married for 35 years. We have three children, Joanne, Maureen and Richard and seven grandchildren. I studied nursing at Addington Hospital. A few of my favourite things are: the smell of rain on hot bricks, sewing, knitting and crocheting. I also enjoy read-ing a good book, painting and gardening. My favourite fl owers are roses and I enjoy listening to clas-sical music from time to time. I absolutely love dogs. I have been volunteering at RSCC in River Lodge 3 since 2011.Favourite colour: Blue and yellowFavourite food: Roast LambMotto: Carpe Diem.

My name is Mathapelo Ratlhagana; I am a careworker at Lakeside.Things you may not know about me:I was born on 22 September, 1986. and grew up in the village of Pankop near Pre-toria. My home language is Setswana. I moved out of this village to pursue educational opportunities and a better future and now live in Alex-andra. I have been engaged to my fi ancé, Neville, for six years! We have been saving up to get married – he has paid my family some lobola, but still has a long way to go! A life-changing experience for me was when I ended up in hospital for one month after my son, Siyabonga, was born prematurely at six months. When I saw the amazing work that the nurses do, I decided to stop my studies in mechanical engineering and to train as a healthcare worker. My dream is to con-tinue training, and to eventu-ally become a nursing sister. A few of my favourite things are gospel music, especially to Vashawn Mitchell; juice; at-tending the Christian Adullam Church in Alex, singing and reading my Bible. I love red roses, freshly baked scones, and lions and dolphins. I now like to watch tennis, thanks to Mrs Joan Bellew who has been teaching me to appreciate the game and recognise the players.Favourite colour: purpleFavourite food: Pizza with a chicken toppingMotto: Do unto others what you would have done unto you.

My name is Rosalind (Rosa) Benjamin; I am a resident of Woodlands.Things you may not know about me:I was born on 5 October, 1934, and grew up in Kimberly. I am Jewish by faith and am an only child. I moved to Johannesburg with my mother and father where I attended primary and high school. I then moved back to Kimberly where I studied to become a social worker at Kimberly University. I met my late husband Arnold, who was a journalist in Kimberly, in 1950 and have no children. I worked at Hillbrow clinic and Baragwaneth Hospital as the social worker for a few years. A few of my favourite things are listening to jazz music, the smell of lavender and reading or watching Travel books and movies. My favou-rite wild animal is a lion and I love strawberry and lime juice, which my good friend Marcella brings for me when she comes to visit. My other good friend Maureen is cur-rently overseas and says she will return in three months. I had a dog named Paddy who I absolutely adored and dis-like cats. I sure do miss stay-ing in my fl at in Killarney and Driving my blue Conquest, which I had to leave behind as a result of moving to Ron Smith Care centre in 2014. I do, however, look forward to visits from my previous helper Patricia and her lovely grandchild.Favourite colour: Red and whiteFavourite food: Conti-nental Food, chutney and jamMotto: To help people as much as I can.
