Room 11Rock Museum
Welcome to All Second Graders
at Hannah McClure
Elementary!
There are three types of rocks:
Sedimentary – rocks formed of sand, silt and mud; rivers, streams & oceans
Metamorphic – rocks made with heat and pressure
Igneous – rocks made with fire
You will visit four stations today:
1. The Library – Our librarians will read to you about dinosaurs that roamed millions of years ago.
2. The Imprint Shop – Our imprinters will assist you in making your own imprint, similar to the way fossils were formed many, many years ago.
3. The Rock Museum– Our resident geologists will guide you through our 2nd grade collection of rocks and minerals. You can examine them up close!
4. The Fossil Museum – Our resident paleontologists will guide you through our collection of Indian artifacts and fossils.
Thanks for coming!
Before you leave, let your guide know one thing you learned during your visit with him/her.
Be sure to observe the rocks in your own yard—you may find some fossils, too!
