ROOM ANALYZER II PRO

If the microphone is to be connected to stereo system thenyou should use the Y-splitter to feed a signal to bothchannels. This should be connected to any input that is freeto use such as a AUX/TV input.

When making final adjustments, make sure signal is appliedto all speakers and subwoofers in the system you wish tocalibrate. Making separate adjustments to each channel willnot accomplish a well-balanced end result.

To avoid equipment to damage the amplifier / subwoofer should be turned off during connection!

Y-splitter to distribute the signal to both channels.

Placing themicrophone

High resolution room analysis - Room AnalyzerWhile doing room analysis the microphone should be placedin about listening position at ear height (70 cm – 110 cmfrom the floor).

Frequency response measurement - RTA/Full RangeWhile doing full range measurements the microphoneshould be pointed towards the speaker, preferably at thesame height as the tweeter (the microphone is directionallysensitive above 5 kHz).

Background noise Important!External noise from trucks, train, traffic etc can easilydisturb the measurement process. If the measurement result looks strange in any way youshould do the same procedure again once or maybe twice. Ifyou get the same result again you can be sure that it iscorrect.

Finally Please remember that “good” sound is a matter of taste, soyou have to experiment to obtain your personal goal. Wewish you best of luck!

SetupAdvanced mode - More options/settings for somefunction: Stimulus EQ, Smoothing possibility,Load/Save (curves), Change of scale (RTA window),Export Room Analyzer & RTA.

HelpAbout XTZ… - Software version.

Toolbar New, Open, Print.

TonegeratorThe tone generator is started by pushing the greenfg-button.

Right-clicking the fg-button displays a menuallowing the user to choose between 10Hz-20kHz1/3 octave sine wave tones or white/pink noise.

The signal level can be adjusted between-100-0dBFS using the arrows or by typing in a value

.6 Output level & Measure.

Output levelThe output signal level can be adjusted using theslide control to the right. It is also possible to adjustthe signal level at the amplifier end.

The output signal level should be green. If it's redit's to high and if it's blue it's to low. In both cases itwill not be able to measure.

MeasureStart the measurement by clicking the Measurebutton.

.7 SPL-meter, Averaging,Weighting

SPL-meterThe SPL-meter (Sound Pressure Level meter) showspresent sound pressure at the microphone position. The meter displays five different top and averagelevels as follows (top to bottom):

LCpk hold shows the highest SPL since start/reset.

LCpeak shows continuous peak levels includingshort bursts.

Which values currently displayed on the bottomthree indicators can be adjusted using the menusunder the meter bar.

LAF hold shows the highest average levelmeasured with the current settings. The lettercombination LAF will change according to yoursettings.

9

Page 10: ROOM ANALYZER II PRO - XTZ...About XTZ Philosophy Our reference and starting point is to reproduce a natural sound, but we still pay attention to the fact that sound is a personal

LAF shows the current average according to thecurrent settings. The letter combination LAF willchange according to your settings.

LAeq shows current SPL according to the selectedfrequency curve. The letter combination will changeaccording to your settings.

Green meter line shows LCpeak level

Yellow meter line shows LAF/LASpeakaccording to the settings made above.

Timer shows the run time of the meter since startor last Reset.

Reset, resets all averages.

Pause, freezes all meter values.

AveragingThe top menu allows for switching between Fast orSlow average. (125ms or 1s). This is shown as an Ffor Fast or and S for Slow on the level indicators(LAF or LAS).

WeightingThe second menu allows for switching between theweighted frequency curves:

A-weighting: Mimics the ears frequency (LAF) response at low SPL and is the option that isnormally used.

C-weighting: Mimics the ears frequency(LCF) response at high SPL.

Z-weighting: A straight frequency response (LZF) curve between 10Hz-20kHz.

.8 Overlay-function.Provides an option to save and view measuredcharts on the screen. Up to 4 charts can be storedand displayed simultaneously or individually. Thisis very powerful when comparing different settingsand systematically working ones way towards theoptimum settings. The charts are displayed or hidden by clicking on”Show”.

Room Analyzer

Use of Room Analyzer 1. Room Analyzer.Shows the frequency response (Blue curve), roommodes (Green curve) and calculated result curve(White curve)

2. Spectogram.Presents an analysis of the decay time in the room. The time spectrum analysis shows a color spectrumof frequency, level and time.

Note: It is possible to switch the main window displaybetween frequency response and spectrogram by double-click on either of them.

3. Room mode.In this window all found room modes are displayedtogether with the recommended compensationparameters calculated for use with DSP products orsimilar products using Parametric EQ.

4. Result and smoothing-menus.

ResultSelect the curve to be displayed by checking orunchecking the relevant boxes.

Smoothing menusSmoothing is a way of evening out the result chart. This can be done using different resolutions. This isan act of balance depending on the equipment used, but also your individual choice. Resolutions available are 2 ppo, 3 ppo and 6 ppo(points per octave).

11
