    Bismillahi Rahman Irrahim

    Blessed be He in Whose hands is Dominion;

    and He over all things hath Power;

He Who created Death and Life, that He may

try which of you is best in deed: and He is the

Exalted in Might, Oft-Forgiving; He Whocreated the seven heavens one above another:

No want of proportion wilt thou see in the

Creation of Allah Most Gracious. So turn thy

vision again: seest thou any flaw?

Again turn thy vision a second time: thy vision

will come back to thee dull and discomfited, in

    a state worn out

    [Surah AlMulk, Verse:1-4]

    Our Vision

Our vision is at the heart of our work and shapes all of our activities as a Dawahorganisation. Through our work, we hope to reach out and touch a part of the world

which knows little about the reality of Islam. In doing so, we hope to be counted amongst

those who Allah (SWT) refers to in the following verse:

"To spread the noble message of Islam across MEXICO, leading by virtuous

example to guide, inspire and educate communities to a better way of life

Let there arise out of you a band of people inviting to all that is good; enjoining what isright, forbidding what is wrong, they are the ones to attain felicity.

    [Surah Al- Imran, Verse 104]

About UsVIVA SLAM is a Dawah & Community Development Organisation set up in order to

convey the peaceful message of Islam across Mexico. Our work is guided by the teachings

of the Quran and authentic Sunnah.

We aim to demonstrate the true message of our faith through positive action, thereby

allowing non Muslims to see and experience the beauty of Islam. We pray, that throughour efforts - and of course the guidance of Allah (SWT) - people will learn about Islam

and accept it as a way of life.

When they listen to what has been sent down to the Messenger, you see their eyes

overflowing with tears because of what they recognise of the truth. They say, Our Lord, we

have believed! So write us down among the witnesses.

    [Surah AlMaidah, Verse 83]

Mexico, is a border state sharing boundaries

with the state of California in U. S.

It is the twelfth largest state, by area, in

Mexico, Its geography ranges from beaches to

    forests and deserts.

Baja California has 5 important cities, the

youngest city is Playas de Rosarito.

    Baja California, Mexico

Rosarito used to be a neighbourhood of

    the Tijuana Municipality, became an

independent city back in 1995, with a

population of 150,000 according to last

census. It is very well known for its good

gastronomy, especially lobster and seafood, its nice beaches and weather.

It has a big diversity of Religions derived

In December 2009, VIVA ISLAM was contacted with

a request from two sisters in the city of Rosarito,

Baja California Mexico. They needed support to

host a dawah event in their local community and

had heard of the food and clothes distribution

project that VIVA ISLAM had already undertaken

    nearby.

VIVA ISLAM agreed to provide financial assistance

to host a small dawah event which was organised in

the home of one of the two sisters. This was the

first such funded event of its kind in the area and

proved a great success, Alhamdulillah, with the localMuslim community actively engaging with the rest

of the residents, informing and educating them

    about the teachings of Islam.

    The Community

VIVA ISLAM visited Rosarito, B. C. in April 2010 and it

was clear that the local Muslim community, many ofthemselves converts to Islam, had a great desire to spread

the teachings of Islam in the local area.

With the support of VIVA ISLAM an Islamic Association

was setup, in Baja Mexico, Al Wahid, which would act as a

satellite organisation to spear head the dawah in the

    community.

The visit also highlighted the clear need for a place

of worship for the Muslim community in the area.

No such facilities exist, wherein the people can

perform their daily ritual worship and use as a focal

point for dawah and Islamic education. It was from

here that the Rosarito Islamic Centre project was

born, with the aim to build an Islamic Centre and

Masjid which would provide worship facilities for

250 people as well as a dawah and education hub.

This area of work forms an integral part of our operations as an organisation. Our focus will be upon traditional dawah activities to invite and inspire peopleto learn about Islam inshaAllah. We aim to carry out activities ourselves aswell as to work with key organisations to help deliver them.

    Planned activities include:

Organising open days encouraging non-Muslims to come and learn aboutIslam in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Developing and distributing new Muslim resource packs.

Establishing a support network for new Muslims to interact with each other.

Distributing literature on Islam including leaflets, posters, small booklets, etc.

Utilising various media to launch information campaigns about Islam.

    Dawah Events

An important aspect of our work is to hold free dawah events for local people and

representatives of organisations to come and find out more about Islam. We have alreadyheld an event which was well attended by local people and media organisations. Free Islamic

literature, as well as light refreshments was provided for attendees. We aim to carry out

further events in the community and eventually hope to hold a large scale Islamic

conference with invited speakers to help spread the noble message of Islam.

Free Iftaar during RamadanAlhamdulillah, the blessed month of Ramadan presents a wonderful opportunity to invite

local people (Muslim and non Muslim) to experience the blessings of iftaar. We aim to

provide free iftaar meals throughout Ramadan, giving local people an opportunity to eat food

as well as find out more about Islam.

Education is arguably one of the most important areas of work, as it is only with the correct

knowledge and understanding of Islam that our vision can be realised. Our emphasis will be

on teaching Islamic knowledge, but there are also communities who do not have access to

adequate non-Islamic education and therefore we will aim to address this issue where

    possible.

Examples of projects we hope to undertake in this area include:

Providing access to authentic Islamic educational resources and materials in Spanish.

Organising structured classes in various subjects including basic Arabic, Quran recitation,

how to perform Salah (prayer), learning duas (supplications) etc. Inviting qualified students of knowledge to conduct seminars and short courses about Islam.

Helping provide access to basic education for underprivileged children.

    The Community

The Muslims in Rosarito, although small in number, arecommitted and are very active in their dawah to the

local community. To date there have been many reverts

to Islam and the numbers continue to grow.

Muslim brothers from the U.S. come to Rosarito on a

regular basis to teach Islam and Arabic and some have

    even moved permanently to Baja.

Many brothers and sisters come down from San Diego,

Los Angeles and other parts of the US for short breaks

    and are regular visitors.

The Baja Muslim community is quite small with around

75 Muslims including individuals and families.

Alhamdulillah the numbers continue to increase and

with the presence of a Islamic Centre the dawah has

huge potential.NEW REVERTS TO ISLAM IN

New Muslim SupportAlhamdulillah, many people have accepted Islam in Mexico so farand this is even before

we have built the centre and support networks. We understand that it is important for

them to have the right support at the outset of their new journey in Islam.

We have provided new reverts with:

The concept of community welfare is fundamental in Islam and forms an important

part of our work. Our aim is to launch projects which help the growth of Muslim

communities and enable them to make a positive and valued contribution to

society. We also hope to develop projects which establish strong links between

    Muslim and non-Muslim communities.

Projects we hope to undertake in this area include:

Organising regular events for new Muslims to meet each other.

Food distribution to the poor and in need.

Distributing resource packs for Muslims to give to their friends, family, neighboursand colleagues.

Campaigns to help keep the neighbourhood clean and tidy.

Practical help and support to vulnerable people, such as the elderly.

    The Building Project

    19/34

The first challenge was where to locate the new

centre. Up until now, a local sister had allowed her

home to be used as the focal point for prayer

gatherings, local classes and dawah events.

It was also home to the new Al-Wahidorganisation

setup earlier in the year. The place was well known

by the locals and after initial negotiations with the

sister, VIVA ISLAM commissioned a surveyors report

on the property and land with a view to purchaseboth for the site of the new Islamic Centre.

Wanting to share in the reward in this great project,

the sister magnanimously discounted the purchase

price by a generous 50% and VIVA ISLAM also

agreed to re-house the sister and her daughter.

The remaining money was generously donated by

three brothers from the UK who had been actively

involved with VIVA ISLAM from the beginning.

The sister and her daughter were re-housed to

nearby premises and the existing house demolished

in its entirety, in preparation for the new centre.

Al Wahid centre was also relocated to the temporary

    premises and provided :

Prayer and wudhu facilities for approx. 40 people.

A teaching room & library with internet facilities.

Kitchen facilities with capacity to cook for the

local community throughout the month of

Ramadan, again being sponsored by VIVA ISLAM.

    Support for Single Mothers

Unfortunately in Rosarito, there is a growing community of single mothers who have little

support to help raise their children in a better way. We hope to help them by:

Giving advice on nutrition and healthy eating

Providing information on cooking options with little money

Arranging classes on self confidence and life skills

    Giving advice on raising children

The team will be getting involved with the local office of Family Affairs and the Women

Institute in Tijuana to help provide these services.

    Food Distribution

Members of the VIVA ISLAM team have visited a small village in Papalutla, located in the

Mexican state of Guerrero in order to distribute staple food items such as rice, beans, oil

and flour to the locals. Approximately 200 people have benefited from the project so far

and many of them have expressed an interest in learning more about Islam Alhamdulillah.

    COMMUNITY

    During our second visit, leaflets

    with some basic information

    about Islam in Spanish were

    distributed along with the food

    parcels.

As guardians of the Earth, Islam commands us to take care of our environment and usenatural resources in a responsible manner. In fact, doing so is considered an act of charity as

stated by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH):

We hope to undertake environmental and agricultural projects which benefit both mankind

and the environment by not only protecting the landscape and replenishing natural

resources, but also to provide much needed jobs and income for poor farmers and manual

labourers. Environmental and agricultural projects we intend to launch include:

    Tree planting

    Constructing plant nurseries

    Growing agricultural produce

    Land irrigation

Provision of clean water to rural communities

    ENVIRONMENT

"If any Muslim plants any plant and a human being or an animal eats of it,he will be rewarded as if he had given that much in charity." (Bukhari).

    Tree Plantation

Environmental and Agricultural projects form an integral part of our work as an

    organisation.

Through our tree plantation scheme, VIVA ISLAM already has 1000 trees donated, which

will be planted to flourish and mature over the years. The trees will improve the soil and

landscape of the area in which they are planted, as well as provide fruit. Local farmers

are used to plant the trees, which provide them with much needed income and support

    for their families.

Make a DifferenceWe know there is a lifetime of work ahead of us, and the undertaking of it is huge. However, this also means the opportunity to gain a lifetime of reward. Indeed, Allah says in the Quran:

Through our work, we aim to take the message of truth to a part of the world which knows

little about Islam. Imagine being part of the rewards of thousands and thousands of people

accepting Islam as a new way of life...

We would therefore like to extend this unique opportunity to you by inviting you to join us

on this journey to attain Paradise inshaAllah.

    You can help us by:

Making sincere Dua for our work

Raising the profile of our charity

Donating money to help us carry out our projects

By time! Surely mankind is in loss. Except for those who believe and dorighteous deeds and exhort one another to truth and exhort one another to

    patience. [Srah Al-Asr]
