August 19th MONDAYRambling House: Tradition in Drum

This event gives an insight into the Rambling house tradition of the early to mid 1900’s in the Drum area of South Roscommon. For many (mostly men) this was a common pastime, considered to be a convivial gathering of neighbours and acquaintances, which was both informative and interactive. Reference will be made to the writings of local authors on the topic. The presentation will finish with a short nostalgic recreation of a typical Rambling House of the mid 1900’s in Drum.

The pan-European nature of the European Heritage Days initiative brings citizens together to celebrate Europe’s diverse and unique cultural heritage and helps build awareness of our shared cultural connections. This year we are celebrating the heritage of Arts and Entertainment. From Shakespeare’s sonnets to Insta-poets’ viral poems, court jesters to stand-up comedians, and archery to virtual reality gaming, European Arts and Entertainment heritage has transformed throughout the ages, and has also transformed us, its makers, admirers and custodians. Over 70 000 events are organised every year in order to help raise awareness of Europe’s common heritage and the continuous need for its protection. This successful initiative also creates new shared cultural heritage experiences, promotes inclusiveness and fosters creativity and imagination. The 50 signatory states of the European Cultural Convention participate in the European Heritage Days initiative. Making National Heritage Week part of a wider European festival!

Did you know that National Heritage Week is part of a wider European Initiative?
