The focus is on providing tools for a multidisciplinary approach to improvements in everyday patient care activities in TSICU, BICU and trauma services to improve patient care and outcomes. Selection of topics was done by a committee made up of a multidisciplinary team of professionals and input and suggestions from previous conferences.

ObjectivesUpon the completion of this activity the attendee will be able to: • Describe the various types of severe traumatic brain injury• Discuss the third international consensus definition of sepsis• Identify the impact burnout has among healthcare workers• Examine the differences between evaluating patients in the prehospital and critical care inpatient setting• Choose the best treatment options for the critically injured patient to improve outcome and quality of life• Recognize some of the unique aspects of burn injuries within West Texas, especially focusing on those of oilfield exploration• Explain the rationale for early use of a tourniquet for life- threatening extremity bleeding• Identify, anticipate, and plan for the special circumstances and needs for children with a difficult airway• Describe different mechanisms of injury in cardiac trauma• Discuss moral and societal values, professional codes of conduct and laws related to the practice of medicine• Demonstrate a systems based rounding process that can be applied to all patients
