Meeting Report 1 November 2016 Call to order was given by Gavan Hodgson

President Endel inducted Geraldine Jones as a member of the Traralgon Rotary Club. She was welcomed by all members present.

An amusing fine session was conducted by Gavan Hodgson

Guest Speaker: in recognition of the Rotary Foundation Centenary, Peter Wallis, spoke on the important work of the Rotary Foundation, quoting some statistics of the good work of the Foundation throughout the world.

The beginning of the Foundation was found in a proposal by outgoing Rotary President Arch Klumph who suggested Rotary set up an endowment “for the purpose of doing good in the world.” Eh said “We are determined that the Endowment fund shall not be unpopular … We truly believe that when each and every individual Rotarian understands theis matter thoroughly and correctly, there will be few, it any, who do not participate, even though the sum may be extremely modest in amount (Arch Klumph 1928)

In 1929 the Foundation made its first gift of $500 to the International Society for Crippled Children. When Rotary founder Paul Harris died in 1947, contributions began pouring in and the Paul Harris Memorial fund was created.

The good work of the Foundation includes Ambassadorial Scholarships; Group Study Exchange; Rotary Health, Hunger *& Humanity (3-H) Grants; The Polio Plus program; Rotary Peace Fellowships; District and global grants

The Impact of our Foundation

Since 1917 the Foundation has raised $3.8 billion and spent $3.4 billion

$269 million was donated (2015 ~ 2016) $266 million was spent (2014 ~ 2015)

2.5 billion children have been immunised 1000 Rotary Peace Fellows
