More visibleMore Relevant

ViableActive and engaged

Strategy

1. Build stronger foundations 2. Transition successfully3. The new model becomes business as usualIt is at least a 2-3 year plan (2013 to 2015).

How we are going to achieve our vision or goal …

Priorities 2013-14

• Raise public image and awareness

• Strengthen the club• Increase Humanitarian Services

The Club should keep doing

Stick with the strategy• a more modern, community-

aware, visible Club• as the main focus, attract new,

younger, enthusiastic members

The Club should keep doingKeep the things that make our meetings valued• Friendly, welcoming atmosphere• Forward planning of the programme• Regular planned social events• One or two major events held offsite• Plenty of notice.

The Club should keep doingContinue our major fundraising projects• Stadium work and the book fair • Unless alternatives are available• Share stadium duty with another organisation

when it is difficult to find enough volunteers.Support the Rotary Foundation and its programmes.

The Club could do betterBetter communication• Reports on Board meetings• Weekly Directors’ reports on plans and progress• Forums three times a year• Members invited to submit items for discussion• Better information about the finances• ‘Fireside’ meetings at members’ homes• Regularly have a committee night on Tuesday with each

committee deciding how they want to hold their meeting.

The Club could do betterBetter meetings• All members should be involved in introducing and

thanking guest speakers, with guidance provided• A dedicated Sergeant, or a very few members• Add vibrancy e.g. changing meeting format• Change the dinner arrangements • Reinstitute the singing of the National Anthem on a

regular basis, say at least once a month.

The Club could do betterImproved induction of new members• Shepherding and mentoring new members

through their first few months, assigning them tasks.

• Hold meetings with new members• A brief job description of roles for new members

e.g., welcome, introduce speaker etc. to give advice like, time to arrive, where to gather information.

The Club could do betterBetter premises • A more modern meeting venueFewer committees• Combine rotary foundation and international• Combine vocational and community or youth• Have spokespersons for sub-partsImproved historical records • The President’s and Directors’ end-of-year reports

should be collated.

The Club could dropAt meetings• Grace prior to dinner • The picture of the Queen• Corner meetings of committees and replace them with

‘fireside’ meetingsProjects• Focus on fewer projects given reduced membership• The citrus fruit project• Assess whether the Dictionaries in Schools project is still

relevant and valued.

The Club should considerProjects• Rotary Neighbourhood Project• Commit to the Salvation Army Appeal annually• Beautify the Tawa Valley Pathway (Ara Tawa)• Stage an event at the refurbished Grasslees reserve

Partnerships• Link in with an organisation like The Salvation Army to support

people who may need help with activities, such as cleaning up sections of people whose circumstances have taken a turn for the worst - active support rather than monetary.

The Club should considerActivities

• A games evening e.g. the games we used to play• A car rally with questions on the way

Programme

• Hold an ‘inspirational’ month where we try and get speakers that have succeeded in sports or business or overcoming life’s hurdles.
