Wear Your Life Jacket!

Why Should I Wear My Life Jacket? The U.S. Coast Guard estimates that life

jackets could have saved the lives of over 90% of boating fatality victims As a boat operator, you're in command of

the safety of your passengers. But accidents can & do happen on the water. There's rarely time to reach stowed life jackets You & your passengers should wear your

life jacket all the time while underway

New Life Jackets Are Attractive & Easy To Wear

Boaters enjoy the feel of sun & spray. So it’s tempting to boat without wearing a life jacket –

Modern life jackets are available in a wide variety of shapes, colors & sizes.

Many are thin & flexibleOthers are inflatable — as compact as a scarf or fanny pack until they hit water, when they automatically fill with air.

There’s no excuse not to wear a life jacket on the water!

How do Life Jackets Save Lives?Capsized in rough water (hippos?) Sinking in unexpectedly heavy sea

conditions Thrown from the boat as a result of a

collision Injured by rocks or submerged objects Unconscious from carbon monoxide fumes. Tossed into cold water Thrown off balance while fishingUnable to swim because of heavy or

waterlogged clothing

Lifejacket ProgramRMEA has just been approved to receive 200

New & used but usable lifejackets from Rotary Mariners in Italy through the IYFR Grants Program

The lifejackets will be distributed to fisherman & ferrymen in Rwanda & Kenya + Marafiki Primary

The next phase will be for Ugandan & Tanzanian fishermen

Local RC assistance is necessary to assist with logistics including identifying recipients, receiving & distributing lifejackets as well as “branding’ to ensure that the lifejackets are not resold in local markets the very same day that they are received
