Diane Sauer continued Fellowship this week and recited some of the notes an employee named Shane received from management. Needless to say, Shane will not be nominated anytime soon as the Employee of the Month. Here’s a sample: Shane, stop putting out samples labeled as “mystery meats.” Shane, stop putting “some assembly required” stickers on the 8-piece chickens. Shane, quit offering extended warranties on the fried chicken. Shane, stop putting on multiple nametags and pretending to have a personality disorder. I must say that while I wouldn’t want an employee like Shane, the notes are really funny. We can’t wait to see what Diane has in store for us next week! Our guests this week were: Joel Berger and his mom. Joel was one of our exchange students in 2000/2001.

Members are asked to be at the school by 8:45 a.m. The Roundtable at JFK High Schools has also been scheduled for April 26th, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. We are not sure how many students will be participating in this session yet. Those who have expressed interest in participating are urged to fulfill their commitment and contact Kim Straniak to confirm their participation. Every Rotarian, Every Year - The Annual Fund is the primary source of funding for the programs of The Rotary Foundation. In order for us to continue doing so much good in the world, it is necessary for Every Rotarian to participate in the program and to support our Foundation Every Year. We ask that all Warren Rotarians give annually to the Every Rotarian, Every Year Campaign. Donations can be made in one lump sum of $100, $10 per month (September through June), or $50 two times a year added on to your dues payment. Checks, cash and credit cards are accepted. Those wanting to be a part of doing good in the world, should see Dallas Woodall or Cheryl Oblinger for more information.

Reds, Whites and Brews – This event will be held on April 29th at Avalon Inn and Resort with all proceeds to benefit Children’s Rehab Center. It begins at 6:00 p.m. and ends at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person and tables of 10 are $750. The evening includes dinner, desserts, wines, beers, music, and a live and silent auction. For more information contact Judy Masaki at Children’s Rehab or at an upcoming meeting. It promises to be a great evening!

Magazine Report Tyra Ealy gave us a report this week on the April edition of The Rotarian magazine. She started with the Up Front section that tells about how Rotary Clubs around the world are making a difference in their communities. The second article she reviewed was about one Rotary Club’s role in helping to establish the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The third article was called “A Well-informed Electorate” and addressed Rotary’s position when it comes to politics. The article made it clear that Rotary cannot endorse candidates or take positions on public issues. Club’s can, however, educate their members on local political issues and what individual members do with that information is up to them. The article was a timely addition to this month’s Magazine and all club members are asked to take five minutes and read the article for themselves. Lastly, Tyra informed everyone that next year’s theme will be “Rotary Serving

Rotary

Code of

Conduct

As a Rotarian, I will:

Act with integrity and high ethical standards in my personal

and professional

life.

Deal fairly with others

and treat them and their

occupations with respect.

Use my

professional skills through

Rotary to mentor young people, help those with

special needs, and improve

people’s quality of life

in my community

and the world.

Avoid behavior that

reflects adversely on

Rotary or other

Rotarians.

Humanity.”

The History of Eastwood Mall Anthony Cafaro Sr. will be making a presentation on Wednesday, April 27th, on the history of the Eastwood Mall. He will be sharing some historical photos depicting the development of one of this community’s largest employers. Members are encouraged to make plans to attend.

Rotary Welcomes Joel Berger We were absolutely delighted to see Joel Berger and his mother at this week’s meeting. Joel was one of our exchange students in 2000/2001 and is now a U.S. Diplomat with the State Department. Joel said he was 14 years old when he met an inbound exchange student while attending school in Leavittsburg. At age 15 he decided to apply to become an exchange student himself and contacted Chris Shape to learn more. When he was 16 years old, he worked three part-time jobs to earn the money he would need to live overseas for a year. He said he lived with a family in Germany and became fluent in that language, which he credits for giving him the extra edge he needed in order to get a job with the State Department. He took the Foreign Service test and worked in India as a liaison between America and Americans traveling overseas. He credited Rotary with enabling him to have this incredible career. He has maintained the close relationship with his host family in Germany all through the years and just recently encountered two young exchange students coming to this country. He said it reminded him of his experiences and he had an opportunity to talk with them about what it was like for him. While Joel credits Rotary for making this career possible, Joel must be given much of the credit. His mother said Joel was always very focused and determined. Once he made up his mind to do something, nothing would deter him from reaching his goal. This was apparent to all of us as he talked about how hard he worked to fulfill his wish to become an exchange student. It was wonderful to meet him this week. We are so proud of him and what he has accomplished. We wish him continued success and happiness in his field and hope he will stop in again when he comes home.

Rotary Foundation Centennial Celebration:

October 23, 2016 In 1917, Arch Klumph, the sixth President of Rotary and Founder of The Rotary Foundation, said, “There should be a realization that Rotary is greater than any one man in it, or any single club; Rotary is not a local movement but a world force.” On October 23rd, 2016, the home District of Arch Klumph in nearby Cleveland will be hosting a special celebratory concert performed by the Cleveland Orchestra with dinner to follow including featured speakers Rotary International President-Elect John Germ and The Rotary Foundation Chair-Elect Kalyan Banerjee. All Rotarian, spouses, and Friends of Rotary are invited to attend the special afternoon concert at Severance Hall. Great seats are still available at http://www.trf100.org/ - click the gold CONCERT button. Rotarians and Friends of Rotary who have or will make a gift or commitment of at least $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation between September 1, 2015 and August 31, 2016 will be eligible to be honored as a Centennial Celebration Donor at the Centennial Celebration Dinner. Please complete the Pledge Form at http://rotary6650.org/pledge.pdf and return it to PDG George Hays. You will be contacted when tickets are available. We anticipate that rooms will be available at the InterContinental Hotel & Conference Center which will be the site of the dinner. European travel

Because Oddball believes that travel shouldn’t be a cookie-cutter event, they customize vacations so that their customers get an adventure that is unique to them. Among the destinations most often desired by their customers: Alaska, National Parks, Europe, the British Isles, South America, Mexico, Central America, United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and the Caribbean.

Why go through Oddball Escapes to plan a vacation? Oddball knows exactly where to go for updated prices, the newest products and special promotions. They can provide insight on destinations and help sort through travel options. For those planning a group trip, Oddball can enable group coordinators to enjoy their trips too since the planning is already done for them. And, because of Cassie’s experiences in the travel industry she is able to provide first-hand knowledge about both domestic and international travel destinations.
