FRIENDSHIP DAY, 5th AUGUST 2012

8)Ist week of August is the mark of Friendship, our club celebrated the same . Human beings are social creatures and have always valued the importance of friends in their lives. There is not much literature on Friendship Day history as we celebrate today. However, there are numerous folktales and several instance in mythological legends that shows that friends and friendship have been valued since the beginning of civilized world. As an intrinsically social creature, men love to make friends to further this process of socialization.  To celebrate this noble feeling it was deemed fit to have a day dedicated to friends and friendship. This beautiful idea of celebrating Friendship Day was joyfully accepted by several other countries across the world. And today, many countries including India, celebrate the first Sunday of August as Friendship Day every year. Lot many other social and cultural organization too celebrate the occasion and mark Friendship Day by hosting programs and get together. In the famous Hindu epic ‘Mahabharata’, Lord Krishna demonstrates the many colors of friendship - affection, brotherhood, protection, guidance and even teasing. Friendship is all about these and much more.

It is endemic in more than 50 countries and also causes large epidemics.Since 1817, seven cholera pandemics have spread to much of the world. The seventh pandemic began in 1961 and affects 3–5 million people each year, killing 120000. Although mild cholera can be indistinguishable from other diarrheal illnesses, the presentation of severe cholera is distinct, with

pronounced diarrheal purging. Management of patients with cholera involves aggressive fluid replacement; effective therapy can decrease mortality from more than 50% to less than 0·2%. Antibiotic treatment decreases volume and duration of diarrhea by 50% and is recommended for patients with moderate to severe dehydration.
