Phased Implementation Phase I 1 - 1 (8)Phase II 2 - 2 (11)Phase III 3 - 3 (16)

RIPAS Implementation over three phases across India

Why e-RIPAS?• Paper based data

entry will lead to a huge pile of hand-filled and scanned sheets.

• Digitising and analysing the paper forms will be time taking, complicated, and error prone.

Page 4: Routine Immunization and Pentavalent Vaccine Preparedness Assessment (RIPAS)

e-RIPAS System: Sailient Features

• Based on open source technology endorsed by UN-GOI (DevInfo Platform)

• Can be quickly scaled horizontally (cover more geographic areas) and vertically (incorporate additional forms)

• Seamless integration of data entry and data visualisation

• Data entry form available both online and offline• Continuous Incremental Development approach• BOT – Build, Operate, Transfer policy for system

development

Parameter e-RIPAS Paper Based

Forms Reusbaility

Low TCOI (Total Cost Of Implementation)

Capture numeric, text data

Capture audio, visual data

Capture Geo Cordinates

Pre validated fields, enforce skip Patterns

Easy storage and portability

Multiple back-ups for disaster recovery

Built-in constraints for completeness of survey

Legibility of data entry

Spatial Analysis

Transfer data to multiple formats

Paper Based RIPAS e-RIPAS

Cost• Low initial cost but high

per unit cost and total cost

• High initial cost but low per unit cost as system replicable

Reusability

• No reusability as form can be filled only once

• Reusable and scalable across geographies and time period

Comparative Advantage of e-RIPAS

Page 7: Routine Immunization and Pentavalent Vaccine Preparedness Assessment (RIPAS)

Paper Based RIPAS e-RIPASData Entry and Editing• Only numerical and text

data can be captured • Text, numerical data, GPS,

pdf, audio and video data can be captured

• Form once filled cannot be edited

• Scope for multiple form edits and adding new questions

• Prefilling not possible • Option to prefill from standard sources (Census etc.)

• Skip pattern and validation handled manually

• Automated data validation and skipping for error free entry

Comparative Advantage of e-RIPAS

Portability & Retrieval• Forms are bulky,

damage prone, risk prone and low chances of recovery

• Perpetual digital storage, multiple back-ups for disaster recovery

• Retrieval is sequential and time consuming

• Hassle free and instant retrieval of raw data

Comparative Advantage of e-RIPAS

Page 9: Routine Immunization and Pentavalent Vaccine Preparedness Assessment (RIPAS)

Paper Based RIPAS e-RIPAS

Data Entry• Significant time effort

for filling form• Less time effort as

entries by key stroke, touch or swipe

• Completeness questionable as investigator may fill selectively or miss some sections

• Constraints can be built in to ensure completeness of data for each section

Comparative Advantage of e-RIPAS

Paper Based RIPAS e-RIPAS

Data Processing• Additional effort

required for digitization of forms

• No digitization efforts as data goes straight from input stage to analysis stage

• Challenges in processing due to legibility issues of hand written data

• Digital entry ensures standard data entry

Comparative Advantage of e-RIPAS

Data Analysis and Visualization• Digital raw data needs

to be analysed using third party software (MS Excel, SPSS, etc.)

• Option to analyse data “on the fly” or export to standard formats for subsequent analysis

• Spatial Analysis not possible

• Option to visualise data on GIS platform

• Visualisation to be taken up as separate project

• Option to visualise data as a dashboard reducing the need for additional system

Comparative Advantage of e-RIPAS

Multiple Options to enter data via

laptops or android devices

Native android application enables

offline data entry and storage

Input data via internet browser, data saved

offline and pushed to server when internet

available

Learning from Training Event

• DIOs appreciated the utility of the technology• It will reduce their work load and effort as the

online form can also be printed and stored for reference.

• Need for an online e-learning module for the DIOs and state stakeholders to undertake continuous learning

Page 30: Routine Immunization and Pentavalent Vaccine Preparedness Assessment (RIPAS)

Future Road Map

• Develop e-learning based learning system to enable users to have self paced learning

• Complete coverage of all 12 States• Training inputs will yield future returns when

the system is used for assessing preparedness of other vaccines (for e.g, rotavirus)
