As the school year comes to an end, teachers are grateful for the strides students have made in reading this past school year. We want to maintain the enthusi-asm and interest in literature over the summer as well.
Enclosed you will find a summer reading list and reading logs for
students entering fifth grade in September. This list is a guide or a
starting place for students. Students may read the books on the attached list or may read other literature based on his/her interest and/or reading level.
We are asking that each child read a minimum of three chapter books over the summer, either with an adult or independently. For each of the books the student reads, he/she will need to complete a reading log en-try. Students will also need to complete ONE of the reading projects at-tached to this packet.
Students who complete a minimum of three reading logs, one of the pro-jects and turns this in to his/her homeroom teacher by the due date of FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2014, will be allowed to participate in a PIZZA PARTY during the second week of school!
If at any time you have questions, please call our school and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.
We look forward to seeing you in September.
Have a Wonderful Summer and
Happy Reading!

Summer Project Choices…
Choose one of the books you read over the summer and complete one of the three project/writing assignments listed below.
You may choose which project you would like to complete.
1. Create a model/sculpture of your favorite character from one of the books you read. You may use as many materials to complete the model as you want. Be creative and have fun!
2. Create a book cover for one of the books you read as if you designed the cover. You can use any materials you want (pastels, colored pencils, etc.) for the illustration as you make the book cover interesting to the reader. Remember to include the title and author on the cover. On the back tell why you want kids to read/buy this book.
3. Write an extension to the book you read. You can write another chapter or a sequel to the book. What will happen next in the book you read? Will there be a new problem? Be creative and have fun!
Happy Reading!!
