FUNFEST! RUNFEST! MICROFEST!by Julia Bryant
You’ve seen the posters. You’ve read the write ups. But
the time has finally come to LIVE IT! Funfest is but a few
short weeks away, the eagerly anticipated event you’ve
heard all about. Don’t just read the reviews after the event,
come on out and enjoy what we all know will be a
great day!
We are excited to kick off the day with our Runfest 5K
which is a “Jailbreak Run” to benefit the restoration of the
original Royse City jail downtown, which is said to have
been built between 1908 and 1920 and is in need of repair.
After that the festivities kick off with craft vendors, food,
a Kidszone full of fun for every age with items such as a
hamster ball, inflatables, a rock wall, petting zoo, pony
rides and more! Throughout the day we have events such
as a childrens pageant, a doggie pageant, a truck pull, cow
patty bingo and even an actual gun fight! If you’re thirsty,
look no further than Microfest, it’s first year at Funfest
and features 20 different beer brands from local breweries
and held from noon til 6:00 pm. A $20 ticket gives you 8
samples and 8 more additional samples can be purchased
for $5. So don’t just hear about Funfest, experience it!

WELCOME OUR NEWEST CHAMBER MEMBERS
MEET YOUR TEACHERnicole belpedio
7th grade teacher at Royse City Middle School
I grew up in rural Wisconsin and
always loved playing school. After
I graduated high school, I was mar-
ried and had two boys. One of my
sons was diagnosed with a learning
disability at an early age, so I visited
a teacher resource store and fell in
love with the many ways to help children. It was at that
moment that I knew it was time to chase my dream.
I was remarried by then, and my current husband
encouraged and supported me every step of the way.
I graduated from Southern Illinois University
Carbondale in December 2008 with a degree in Elemen-
tary Education and endorsements at the middle school
level. I taught on and off for one year in Wauconda, Illi-
nois, before moving to Fate in 2010. I substituted for our
district for a year and a half before I was lucky enough to
be offered a position at the middle school, and this is
my third year here teaching. I serve on the Unit Test
Edit Committee for our district and attend a lot of my
students extra-curricular activities. I enjoy watching
them develop not only as students, but as young adults,
and I encourage them to chase their dreams.
George is a senior Saint Bernard / Mixed (short coat) and
is available for adoption now. He is a large boy but is great
with other dogs. He is house trained and up to date with
his vaccines and neutered.
Feel free to comment on the individual picture as well
but don’t automatically presume we’ll see it. Facebook
does some funny stuff sometimes. Call, email,
message the page.
If interested in adopting any of our guests, please call
214-796-1445 or send an email to [email protected]
Hours of operation are from 8 am to 5 pm seven days a
week. The shelter doesn’t have any “open to the public”
hours so you must contact one of our Animal Control
Officers to make an appointment.
