Welcome to the refreshed Robert Plumb catalogue. We have

been exceptionally busy over the past few years massaging

our business endeavouring to strike the perfect balance

between locally made and imported product. I believe that

this latest offering represents the best of both worlds. Not

every product suits everyones tastes and I have worked hard

to try and provide diversity whist maintaining my simple robust

aesthetic found throughout the range. Our team has worked

tirelessly to increase the range of products that can be custom

built and modified to suit an individual’s requirements and

we are one of the few firms that offer this service for outdoor

furniture. My business partner, Bill Clifton, has assembled a

young and talented team of carpenters and joiners who

manufacture each piece with diligent care and attention.

Apart from the products designed and manufactured

overseas, it is pleasing also to be able to offer locally built

furniture at a competitive price. It has been an absolute

pleasure working with Cameron Williams. Cam shares a great

passion for his craft and collaborating with him has been loads

of fun. His handmade pottery is one of my favorite ranges.

It is extremely easy to modify in order to create an individual

look for particular clients. Cam and I look forward to working

on the development of additional products in the future.

As well as developing the product business my business

partner Bill Clifton and I have diversified the brand to

include Robert Plumb Project which designs and builds

custom external fixtures, furniture and fittings. We have

been involved in some wonderful projects on both sides of

the continent and look forward to providing external design

and construction solutions in the future. Our other exciting

project has been the development of Stay Bondi by Robert

Plumb which encompasses two small luxury holiday houses

for short term rent right by the beach in Bondi.

I would like to thank all the architects, designers and

builders with whom we are associated who continue

to support the Robert Plumb brand. I would also like to

make special mention of the ‘inner circle’, Eric Matthews,

Romain Allwill, Briony Fitzgerald and Chris Warnes, my

sounding boards for all things Robert Plumb.

Although there are several Robert Plumbs world wide our

Robert Plumb doesn’t exist. The name is derived from the

building tool the plumb bob which is a counter weight on

the end of a string line used to determine if something is

perpendicular or Plumb to the horizon.

A plUmB-BoB or a plUmmeT is a weight, usually with a pointed tip on the bottom, that is suspended from a string and used as a vertical reference line, or plUmB-lINe.The instrument has been used since at least the time of ancient Egypt[1] to ensure that constructions are “plUmB”, or vertical.

designer William Dangar and expert builder & joinery

craftsman Bill Clifton, Robert Plumb uses premium materials

producing the highest quality products tested and refined in

the Sydney factory to withstand the harsh Australian climate.

The Robert Plumb range includes letterboxes, door mats,

clothes lines, Australian handcrafted outdoor furniture, firepits,

planters and lighting.

Our classic timber furniture can be customised to suit

specific requirements. Robert Plumb manufactures in a range

of timbers and also offers a wide selection of fabrics from

leading suppliers.

wIllIAm dANgArOver the past two decades, leading Australian landscape

designer William Dangar has equipped the Dangar Group

with a strong national identity; a bespoke exterior design

business synonymous with quality, innovation and practicality.

In 2006 following the success of over 700 projects nationally

and a lengthy association with Belle Magazine as Exterior

Design & Garden Editor, Dangar combined ideas and

inspiration and created Robert Plumb outdoor furniture

and architectural hardware products. Breaking the mould

of mass-produced, his distinctive, handcrafted designs using

high quality, durable materials can be customised to suit a

client’s lifestyle. Today Robert Plumb products are sold by

over 50 distribution outlets nationally.

BIll clIFToNA licensed builder and carpenter, Co-Director Bill Clifton

produces Robert Plumb’s handcrafted furniture and undertakes

the construction of Robert Plumb Projects. Working closely with

founder – leading landscaper and Design Director William

Dangar, Bill’s building expertise combined with specialty

joinery and furniture manufacturing, complements the brands

customised approach, attention to detail and use of high

quality materials.


desIgN All conceptual design is done by William Dangar and

the fleshed out by my clever design team, in conjunction

with collaborators like Cameron Williams and designers

such as Romaine Alwill and Briony Fitzgerald. None of the

Robert Plumb products are cutting edge they are all

relatively geometric, robust, clean and based on my

philosophy that simple design = longevity.

mAde All timber items are made in Australia by our skilled craftsmen in

our factory in Botany. All ceramic products are made to order

by Cameron Williams in his studio on the south coast of NSW.

All other items are manufactured in a series of hand picked

factories in Southern China and then stored at our warehouse

for distribution. The Alboo arrives unpainted and once the cus-

tomer chooses the colour we paint finish in Australia.

cUshIoNs

All robert plumb cushions are made in China (Excluding custom

sizes). All foam is Quick Dry Foam and we use Sunbrella Taupe

as our standard colour fabric. The products are designed to

be left outside permanently however we advise bringing them

inside if you are away for extended periods of time.

AvAIlABIlITy Most of our products are on display in our 350 square metre

showroom at 55 Cranbrook St BOTANY NSW. In addition to this

we have a range of distribution outlets Australia wide that are

listed on our website. Alternatively all our products are sold

cUsTomIsINg Please contact the office for all custom enquiries. Often site

visits are required and depending on the specifics of the

project design charges may apply.

We use Dulux powder coat products to paint our furniture.

The colour charts are available to view online and via our

showroom.


The Robert Plumb showroom in Botany is a comprehensive

design space with the intent to assist designers and clients

in achieving their outdoor objectives. The specified Robert

Plumb team members are available to assist you and provide

a quotation as you consider the products on the floor. Whilst

the Botany showroom holds an abundant range of the Robert

Plumb products, particular items may need to be organised

for viewing through prior arrangement with the Robert Plumb

team. An extensive array of outdoor fabrics from leading

manufacturers is available for perusal if the Robert Plumb

Standard Sunbrella Taupe fabric is not opted for.

Monday – Friday 9am - 5pm,

ARTIST PLANTERS by CAmERoN WILLIAmSCameron Williams made a choice early in life to become a

ceramic artist and as soon as high school finished he began

studying ceramics full-time. Following this he trained under the

guidance of Master Potter Errol Barnes at Lyrebird Ridge Pottery

in Queensland.

Early on in his career, as his ceramic work was becoming

increasingly popular, Cameron succeeded in winning

an important contract to produce the ceramic pots for

Canberra’s New Parliament House. As a result of this contract

Cameron’s work became highly sought after, with his signature

large pots being commissioned for many high profile clients

including Westfield Corporation.

Years later Cameron’s decided to down-size his operations

and to share his extensive knowledge and experience by

becoming a part time lecturer at Sydney’s National Art School.

While Cameron’s practice has explored areas as diverse as

figurative sculpture to building tandoor ovens, it is his work in

the “big pot” market for which he is best known and admired.

Cameron currently resides and works from his purpose built ce-

ramic studio in Bodalla on the NSW South Coast. He is currently

producing a range of unique terracotta glazed pots made

exclusively for Robert Plumb, designed to compliment without

overpowering other elements within an outdoor living space.

HANdmAdE TERRACoTTA PoTS - 20 CoLouRS The pots created for Robert Plumb are hand thrown from

terracotta clay (which is made by Cameron himself). The forms

are simple and the throwing style is loose but balanced. The

pots are coated with slip (wet clay) and bisque fired to 1050

degrees in a 13.5 cubic metre gas fired trolley kiln. They are

removed from the kiln after 5 days, sprayed with earthenware

glazes and refired to 1080 degrees. Four days later the finished

pots emerge from the kiln, waterproofed on the inside and

delivered to Robert Plumb in Sydney.

Enquiries for custom made pots in a variety of styles, sizes and

glazes are also welcome.

Quick Dry Foam is an advanced, high performance foam

designed specifically for outdoor cushions. Quick Dry Foam

is produced by a sophisticated process called Hydro-Blast

Reticulation. Carefully selected high grade material

combined with a unique process creates a foam with extreme

durability and strength. This is what gives Quick Dry Foam its

unique porous open cell structure. The large, open pores

in the foam allows water to drain rapidly and fresh air to

circulate freely and continuously. The Quick Dry Foam feels

more comfortable and luxurious, but is also stronger and

more supportive. That is why the cushions keep their shape.

The foam uses anti-microbial technology which prevents

the growth of common moulds and fungus.

Sunbrella has received numerous awards for its quality and

longevity. We use Sunbrella Canvas fabric to cover our Quick

Dry Foam cushions with, as the range is uniquely designed for

outdoor use. Sunbrella fabric is water, mould and UV resistant.

It is also easy to maintain with most stains easily removed with

mild, soapy water.

stainless steel All Robert Plumb stainless steel products are constructed with marine grade 316 stainless steel (unless otherwise stated). In extreme coastal locations, brown discolouration, or tea staining, can appear on the surface of products. Tea staining does not affect the structural integrity or the longevity of Robert Plumb products and it can be controlled. Any tea staining can be removed with a mild abrasive cleaner and warm soapy water. Any minor scratches can be removed by rubbing with a Scotch Brite pad in the direction of the grain.

For cleaning and maintaining stainless steel products Robert Plumb also recommends Rapelle Cream Cleaner and Protecta. Rapelle Cream Cleaner will easily clean, polish and remove contaminants. The Rapelle Protecta is a unique product which chemically bonds to surfaces forming an invisible, protective barrier. Both Rapelle products are available to purchase from Robert Plumb.

timbeRUnless otherwise stated, Robert Plumb timber products are constructed with New Guinea Rosewood. As with any timber product they are affected by natural weathering when exposed to the environment. The weathering process will turn the timber to a silver colour. However the original furniture colour can be retained by applying a rich penetrating timber oil, such as Feast and Watson Outdoor Furniture Oil ‘Clear’, every six to eight weeks. Smoothness of the timber can be retained by lightly sanding the horizontal surfaces with fine grade sandpaper as required.

Leaching occurs naturally in timber products and can cause light staining to the surface on which the timber is placed. Surfaces affected by leaching can be cleaned with a bleach and other cleaning products containing Oxalic acid.

CoPPeRDue to coppers non-corrosive strength there is no maintenance required. Copper will patina over time producing a green coloration this is to be expected and a part of the charm.

Cushions Robert Plumb’s standard Sunbrella Taupe cushion covers are removable and can be machine washed in cold water (less than 100°F/38°C). Depending on wash load size, use normal amounts of mild laundry soap and allow fabric to air dry.

For general or light cleaning, brush off any loose dirt, prepare a cleaning solution of 2 ounces (1/4 cup) mild soap per gallon of lukewarm water (less than 100°F/38°C). Use a sponge or a soft bristle brush to clean allowing cleaning solution to soak into fabric, rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue and allow fabric to air dry.

dooRmat The natural coir matting used in our doormats is susceptible to swelling when exposed to water i.e. rain, hoses etc. To overcome this we offer two variations:

1. Maude Doormat (Outdoor)

2. Maude Doormat (Indoor)

The Maude Doormat Outdoor allows the natural expansion of the coir fibres to take place without altering the function or affecting the aesthetic appearance of the doormat.

We do stress that if the doormat is to be placed in an outdoor environment, only the Maude Outdoor Doormat be selected. Robert Plumb accepts no responsibility for warping due to exposure to water for the Maude Doormat Indoor. Please note that when dry, the mat will shrink back to its original size.

If a client wishes to use an indoor frame in an outdoor situ-ation, an outdoor sized coir mat will replace the indoor mat. This will create a necessary gap between the mat and frame to allow for the coir fibres to expand when exposed to water.

letteRboxesStainless Steel316 stainless steel is reputed for its unparalleled anti-corrosion quality when compared with other grades of stainless steel. It is widely used in marine applications, therefore also known as marine grade stainless steel. 316 stainless steel does however require maintenance/cleaning to look its best. Without regular maintenance, the stainless steel may become discoloured over time, impairing its appearance. This brown discolouration is referred to as ‘tea staining’; however this does not affect the structural integrity or longevity of the material. Any tea staining can be removed with a mild abrasive cleaner while minor scratches can be removed using a Scotch Brite pad in the direction of the grain. Tea staining occurs most commonly near salt water areas but wind exposure, pollution, and higher temperatures can also create environments where tea staining may occur.

Robert Plumb stocks Rapelle which is a Stainless Steel cleanser and protector which will increase the longevity of the original condition of your stainless steel.

Wall integrated

Unique to Robert Plumb, the wall integration letterboxes have a stainless steel telescopic sleeve which doubles in size from 200-400mm or 300-600mm, enabling them to be applied easily to walls of different thicknesses.

Installing the Robert Plumb’s free-standing letterbox range is as simple as setting it into a hole using 2 bags of rapid set concrete.

maintenanCeCopper“Patina” is the tarnish that forms on the surface of copper and is the result of atmospheric corrosion. This does not affect the structural integrity of your letterbox. It is generally a bright green colour when well established, but may initially be black before turning green.

timberThe Robert Plumb timber letterboxes are made with New Guinean Rosewood. If left to weather naturally the timber will turn a silver or grey colour. During the weathering process hairline cracks may appear however this does not affect the structural integrity of the letterbox. If you wish to prevent the weathering process we recommend oiling the timber with a water based penetrating oil such as Resene, available at Resene.com.au.

locksPlease note our locks will require maintenance over time. Please take care when installing the letterbox to ensure no sand, cement or gravel enters the lock, as this will impair the working parts. Never build the wall around the letterbox, if possible inset integrated letterboxes after completion of the wall. We recommend every 6 months unscrewing the lock and barrel from the inside, lightly scrub with warm soapy water and let air dry before replacing it and applying a small amount of lubricant (Graphite Powder or WD 40).

replacement KeysEvery letterbox will come with a corresponding key for the lock. Please record the 3 digit number found on your key as this is the only way to get a replacement. Robert Plumb uses Australian locks which most specialty lock smiths will keep on file. Keys can be copied using this unique number. Please contact your local lock smith.
