TarunodayWith the changed schedule the staffs at Tarunoday seemto have forgotten the word 'holidays' since the RTCremained abuzz with activities during the'summer vacation' with the fourth year studentsreadying themselves for their comprehensive exams.Their preparation was so serious and silent that itprovided a conducive atmosphere to our RanchiScholastics who made their annual retreat under thesame roof soon after the Province Days. Of course,Fr. Peter Mahendra Tigga, their retreat director, schooled them well in doing the Exercises. When thegrateful and spiritually well nourished group ofScholastics left the campus Brother Isidore got therooms ready for the fresh Taruns. Earlier he had beento Chhattisgarh for an ordination and the wedding ofhis relative. Soon after the Province Days Fr. Henrytoo had been home and came back refreshed afterbeing with his aged brother and family. Fr. Francis tootravelled homewards to celebrate the Gami of hismother. Fr Amrit, as always, held the fort.

On June 3 the staff and the Jamshedpurianstravelled to Bandgaon for the funeral of Mr. FrancisMundu, the father of Fr. John Mundu (JAM), who diedafter a prolonged paralysis. Fr. Francis had a real testof his own faith while he conducted sessions for theJunior Sisters of the Ursulines at Gumla for two days(June 5-6) on the insights and demands of the Year ofthe Faith. Fr Amrit guarded the campus for the mostpart of the summer but found time to bless a weddingon June 10 at Gumla.

A series of farewell and welcome ceremoniesboth at the RTC and in our neighbouring religiouscommunities kept our evenings cooler. A fresh batchof 5 Taruns came to Tarunoday on June 15 to do theirtheology. Soon after their orientation programme theyquietened themselves for their retreat under theguidance of Fr Barry. Our own Bipin Tirkey joinedthe retreat as the sixth fresher but the original numberfive remained intact when the retreat concluded. Before the retreat concluded the fourth years foundtheir luggage and the results ready after thecomprehensive exams (June 20-22). They moved to theirrespective provinces for their diaconate ministry. Our ownFr Milianus Beck represented Vidyajyoti Delhi as an

examiner. Meanwhile the second years, including ourAshok and Pradeep, arrived on June 27 and worked hardfor a grand inauguration of the academic year on June 29.Fr. Ranjit Toppo, the chief celebrant at the Eucharistinspired and beckoned us to be transformers despiteour decreasing number. Soon after the Eucharist,Fr. Christopher Lakra shared his wisdom in his keynoteaddress on the Adivasi Philosophy of Life, the Annualtheme of our academic year. About 100 invited guestsfrom our neighbourhood and neighbouring religiouscommunities, including those from the GossnerTheological College, benefitted from the talk andinteractions. We hope to deepen those insights at ourannual seminar. Classes have begun since July 1, 2013.

St. Stanislaus campus and community welcomedFr. Tej Kumar after his fruitful tertianship and pastoralministry and bid farewell to Br. Modestus Tirkey andFr. Raphael Soy who already have moved to new placewith renewed spirit.

Stanislaus High School: - Before the summervacation ended, Fr. Iganatius Lakra, the Principal of theHigh School and Fr. Let the'Magis Mantra' resound in the campus and outside.

The school reopened on 13th June 2013 and classesare going on full swing. The late comers and any offendersin the campus are bound to uproot the weeds in thecampus and fulfill the penalty.

Hostel : No sooner Fr. Tej was back from Raia thanhe started cleaning and repair drive in the hostel. He threwaway the rotting stuffs, hammered the dilapidated roofbefore he plastered, chopped off the bad and dangerouslooking trees, pruned and trimmed the good ones. He triedto make it habitable.

He also realized that the renovation of the hostelbuilding and campus is not enough until the hostellersare rejuvenated in their academic performance. Therefore, he challenged and planned to bring out the

dormant energy and knowledge of the community membersby helping the hostellers in their learning process for life.Consequently, Fr. Ignatius Lakra, the headmaster of theschool, Tej Kumar Baxla, Fr. Ignatius Xalxo, Fr. AlbinusTete and Fr. Sushil Tirkey are giving tuition to the hostellers.

RomeThe month of June was the exam time for both thestudents and the staff of the Gregorian University. Thestudents of the second year philosophy and third yeartheology were rather serious regarding their exams asthis was their last Semester; and after the final exams, aseries of celebrations were clearly noticeable in theUniversity Bar. Our two Ranchi men - Suman and Sylverius- too were happy and satisfied with their performance intheir exams. After completing one year of FormatorsCourse, they are enthused and hopeful of doing better rightfrom the beginning of their licentiate program in Spirituality.Amidst the exams, the Gregorian Jesuit Community officiallyclosed the current academic year on 21 June with a solemnEucharistic celebration presided over by R.P. On 24 June, Kulwant Minj arrived in Rome for thefirst cycle of theological studies. Sylverius had gone to theairport along with the Spiritual Director of InternationalCollege of Gesù to receive Kulwant. His journey to Romewas without any hassle and so he seemed to be full of lifeand enthusiasm. On his arrival at College of Gesù, the otherRanchi men - Suman, Linus and Prem - immediately cameto greet him and make him feel at home. The followingday, Suman and Sylverius, showed him some of theinteresting places of historical, cultural and religiousimportance, which are located in the heart of Rome. In theevening, they wisely decided to show him GregorianUniversity, where he will come for the classes from themonth of October. He hopes to pick up the basics of theItalian language before the start of the lessons. InternationalCollege of Gesù has a good number of new Scholasticsfrom different parts of the world and the authorities havearranged various programs for them for the language learning. After conducting the exams for his courses, Linus left forRanchi on 27 June. During his summer vacation, he willtake classes in St. Albert's College from 10 July. During

the first week of July, Suman and Sylverius too departedfor the summer ministry to different places. Both of themplan to devote sometime to visit Belgium and to study theland of those missionaries who, with their missionary zeal, dedication and hard work, transformed the life of a vastnumber of the people of Chotanagpur.

On 29 June, Justin came back to Rome after hisvacation in the Province. This year, he had combined hisannual vacation with the publicity mission of VaticanRadio. He left for Andamans on 5 June with Alex Tirkey, the Hindi Regional Director of Vatican Radio. Beforedeparting for Andamans, they paid a short visit to H.E.Telesphore P. Cardinal Toppo to brief him about theannual reaching out program of Vatican Radio in the Hindispeaking dioceses of India. Justin and Alex were receivedwarmly by David at the airport. During their publicity drive,H.L. Bishop Alex Dias, SFX, addressed a group of some200 priests, religious, nuns and lay leaders of the diocesewho had gathered for three days for the year of faithcelebration in the pastoral center. Later they visited, parishes, convents, schools and mass centers to explainto the people the activities of Vatican Radio, and invitedthem to participate in its mission. David led them to someimportant parishes such as Mayabandar, Baratang, Rangat,Wimberligunj and Prothrapur for the same purpose. Theyare grateful to the Jesuits working in Andamans, namely,David, Benedict, Edward, Anil and Alexander for theirhospitality and companionship.

After the mission accomplished in Andamans, Justinshared his Radio Mission with the Novices in Ashirwadand the candidats in Minor Seminary. He has everyreason to hope that his publicity drive will yield richdividends by inspiring many people to participate in theVatican Radio mission of peace, dialogue and harmony.

evaluation and also the planning for the new academic year2013-14. This was held 260 Kms away from Minia in theoutskirts of Cairo with the whole school management staff. All together we were 27. Most of them married but devotedthemselves to the works for three intensive days being awayfrom family / children which is not so easy for them.

Mid-June was occupied with entrance tests /interviews / admissions for the new students for the newacademic year 2013-14. Interview is done in the 2nd shift,i.e., from 6-10 p.m followed by supper.

So far the revolution in Egypt has not broughtto the people expected results. Snatching of valuables, theft, robbery, etc., were rare, and often figure in thenews. In mid-June, almost all computer gadgets werestolen from the office and classrooms of a JesuitPrimary School in Cairo. Two computer sets werestolen from our school as well and so far nothing could betraced out.
