From the Deacon
“Should anyone ask you the reason for this hope of yours, be ready to reply but speak gently and respectfully.” (1 Pet 3:14) These words from the letter of St. Peter challenges us to always be prepared to defend what we believe as Christians. At times,
we might feel inadequate or not rooted deeply enough in our faith to respond boldly to anyone who challenges us as to why we believe all that we do as Catholics.
Jesus tells us that when we love him, he promises us that we
will always have the Spirit of Truth on our side. This Spirit not only enables us to choose what is morally right and acceptable, but it also gives us confidence and courage in our eagerness to follow Christ and be an active part of His Church.
The greatest argument that we have for our hope in Jesus is the way we live out our say to day existence.
By living out the values of the Gospel, we help to build up the body of Christ which is the Church. Pope Francis reminds us
that we should never feel as though we don’t matter to the Church. “No one in the Church is useless,” he says. “We are all necessary for building this temple.” We do not need to be great philosophers or theologians to belong to this Church.
We each matter when it comes to building up the Church.
Pope Francis goes on to say: “Some people say, ‘I have nothing to do with the Church;’ but in this way the brick of a life in this beautiful temple is left out.” Church doctrine says that we
are the living stones which make up the Church. Each stone built one upon the other makes our Church what it is. Pope Francis expresses the idea that each of us is needed if the
Church is to realize its fullest beauty.
In a hostile world, as Christians, we will always be challenged
for what we believe. Jesus prepares us for this, but he promises that he will never abandon us or leave us alone. He says: “If you love me and obey the commands I give you, I will ask the
Father and he will give you another Paraclete, the Spirit of truth – to be with you always.” It will be God’s Spirit speaking through us in our words and actions. This is how we will most
profoundly show our reason for what we believe as Christians.
In Christ, Deacon Frank
"Mary is pointing out the way to Jesus. And walking with Him and His mother, we reach the beauty
of the Kingdom."
- Cardinal DiNardo

SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

Novena Prayer to St. Rocco
O Great St. Rocco, deliver us, we beseech thee,
from the scourges of God;
through thy intercession,
preserve our bodies from contagious diseases,
and our souls from the contagion of sin.
Obtain for us salubrious air;
but, above all, purity of heart.
Assist us to make good use of health,
to bear suffering with patience;
and, after thy example,
to live in the practice of penance and char-
ity, that we may one day enjoy the happiness
which thou has merited by thy virtues.
St. Rocco, pray for us (say three times)
