PRINCIPAL’S NEWS It’s been an eventful start to Term Two and I would like to congratulate the students on their positive attitude to the College and their own learning. This week we enjoyed host-ing the parent community as they attended interviews with their young people to discuss learning progress with teachers. As I have said on many occasions, you can never un-derestimate the role of parents and family in their child’s education.

Last Monday I was lucky to attend the Region Athletics at Ballam Park. Principals from the local Secondary Schools took turns in presenting ribbons and medals to event win-ners and placegetters. I was very happy that my first three presentations were to win-ning Rosebud students. We had a large team attend the event and I was very proud of their athletic per-formance and the way our team members conducted themselves on the day.

From athletics I came back to school for our annual Open Night. This night is for prospective Grade Six students. We had a very large number of attendees which reinforces our belief that the College provides quality and diverse learning opportunities for the young people in this community. I would like to thank all of those who came along, the staff, and most importantly our students who confidently hosted our visitors and spoke of RSC opportunities with pride.

On Tuesday last week we held our ANZAC Day assembly. Thank you to the student leaders who spoke at the assembly, our special guest presenters, and our student performers. The student leaders proudly presented money raised from their free dress day to a local charity that supports returned servicemen and women. On ANZAC Day several of our student leaders attended the local community services to present wreaths on behalf of the College.

There are many College events coming up, but I am especially excited about the VCE Theatre Studies production showing of ‘The Real Inspector Hound’; May 9-12. I encourage you to purchase tickets and come along and see these very talented students.

SPORTS NEWS

LAWN BOWLS Rosebud Secondary School’s Lawn Bowls team of Ella Hilton, Max Oliver, Dylan Breen and Tom Rainsbury recent-

ly tasted success on the greens at the Hampton Park Bowls Club competing in the Southern Metropolitan Region

competition for Secondary Schools. To get to this competition they won our regional section at Hasting Bowls Club

at the end of last year where they played against schools from the Frankston, Mornington and Westernport regions.

At Southern Metropolitan Region competition the schools were divided into two groups and the schools within each

group played three games of six ends. The winners of each group then played off in the final to then be crowned

champion of the region and head off to the State Championships. The day wasn’t pleasant as it was quite overcast

and windy, so the conditions were quite trying. In the preliminary rounds we played against McKinnon Secondary

College (5-5 draw), Melbourne Secondary College (winning 8-5) and finally Frankston Secondary College (winning

16-1). This meant we won our group and were to play Glen Eira Secondary College in the final.

The final was to be played over 10 ends and the score card for the final was as follows:

The day was very successful for our College and we will be travelling up to Darebin Bowls Club on the 2nd

of May to compete for the State Title. I would like to congratulate the team on reaching this standard as none of the members play this sport competitively outside of school. I wish them well for the State Competition. Mr Glover

YEAR 7 GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

The Year 7 Girls team had a very clear cut win in the Peninsula District Championship, held last term.

Rosebud defeated Dromana, Mount Eliza, Mornington and Westernport to win the Peninsula title.

Last week the girls played off in the Southern Metro preliminary final at the Dandenong stadium against a

team from Keysborough. The score was split at one set all and in the deciding set after fluctuating scores

throughout, Keysborough managed to win the decider 15 - 13.

It was a great effort by the girls to be so close in a match that could have gone either way. They practised

regularly and should be very pleased with their achievements and improvement.

The team members were Ella Dunston, Ellie McNair, Sophie McGrath, Emily Long, Maisie Longhurst,

McKenzie Mc Coll- Jarvis, Ava Gillett, Summer Loney and Jacynta Suric. Pat Egan

CAMPS, SPORTS AND EXCURSIONS FUND (CSEF)

(APPLICATIONS CLOSE 29 JUNE 2018) The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) provides payments for eligible students to attend activities like:

school camps or trips

swimming and school-organised sport programs

outdoor education programs, excursions and incursions. Please note the changes for 2018 applications. See ‘Submit and application’. Who can apply: Families holding a valid means-tested concession card or temporary foster parents are eligible to apply. There are two criteria that must be met: On the first day of term one (29 January 2018) or the first day of term two (18 April 2018), a parent or legal guardian of a student must be an eligible beneficiary of one of these cards: Veterans Affairs Gold Card Centrelink Health Care Card Pensioner Concession Card

OR they must be a temporary foster parent OR the student is 16 years or older and holds a valid concession card (such as a Youth Allowance Health Care Card) AND the parent or legal guardian must submit an application by the due date.

For the purposes of CSEF, students may be eligible for assistance if they attend a Victorian registered primary or secondary school. Typically, these students are aged between five and 18 years. School is compulsory for all Victorian children aged between six and 17 years of age. CSEF is not payable to students attending pre-school, kindergarten, TAFE or who are home schooled.

Payment amounts:

$125 per year for eligible primary school students & $225 per year for eligible secondary school students.

Payments are made directly to the school and are tied to the student. Most payments start from March onwards. Applications can be received over term one and two. Payments are for the application year and cannot be claimed for previous years. Year 7 and Prep students in government schools who receive the fund are also able to get support for school uniforms. The CSEF payment cannot be used towards voluntary school charges, books, stationery, school uniforms, before/after school care, music lessons, or formals/graduations. Submit an application If you applied for the CSEF at your child's school in 2017, you do not need to complete an application form in 2018 unless there has been a change in your family circumstances. Your child's school will apply for the CSEF on your behalf. You will only need to submit an application form in 2018 if any of the following changes have occurred: *new student enrolments: your child has started or changed schools in 2018 or you did not apply at the same school in 2017 or *changed family circumstances: such as a change of custody, change of name, concession card number, or new siblings com-mencing at the school in 2018.
