In 2007 The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Center for Marketing Research presented a survey about social networking was proposed to the Inc. 500. The same survey was just given to the companies and here are the results

While the growth in familiarity with social networks only grew from 42% to 57% the usage shot up from 27% to 49%

Forums show to be a very foreign method of conversation. One of the hottest places to talk about subjects is one of the least used by large companies.

In the second largest mover in the survey, blogging has increased both in familiarity and usage. Over half are familiar with it and almost 2 out of 5 companies use it.

The second most common social media in use is online videos. Nearly half of the companies that responded use it.

Replacing wikis from the 2007 survey, podcasting has fallen to the bottom of the survey. One in Five companies using podcasting is still a respectable number however.

Moving up from the bottom of the list in 2007 Wiki usage is just over 25% for 2008. With the familiarity over doubling watch for wikis to keep moving up this coming year.

The percentage of companies not using any social media technologies was almost cut in half over the last year. Social media has definitely found it’s place in the fastest growing companies.

With almost half of the companies agreeing that Social Media is “Very Important” to their marketing campaign it’s easy to see why RSS Applied is a wonderful addition to your team.

Forums are severely under used and not something companies are familiar with.

Online video is quickly gaining on social networks

Podcasting is falling in usage

Wiki use and understanding is growing. Watch for wiki’s to become more and more used

77% of these companies use at least one form of social networking

Social Media is considered at LEAST somewhat important to 78% of these companies
