FRIENDS OF THE MICHIGAN AIR LINE TRAILA volunteer organization, the Friends group includes members from all three communities (and beyond, too). The Friends of the MALT organize events both large and small, advocate for and promote the trail and help raise funds for a variety of trail amenities.
The group meets monthly. Location and meeting time does vary, check our website or Facebook page for details. We’d love to have you join us!
DONATE ONLINEDonations of all amounts are welcome. Tax-deductible donations arenow accepted through our financial partner, the Community Foundation of Greater Rochester. Visit the page at miairlinetrail.com/donate.html to donate.
The property was acquired in 2017 for $2.6 million. Grant funding was generously provided from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund and the Transportation Alternatives Program through the Michigan Department of Transportation. Additional funding for construction was provided by MDOT and the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr Foundation. A pedestrian bridge over M-5 was constructed in 2018.
In 2020, Phase Two will begin work, from Downtown Wixom to the Huron Valley Trail. A temporary connector is open. The Michigan Air Line Trail is part of the Great Lake to Lake Trails [Route 1], a cross-Michigan destination trail that extends from Port Huron to South Haven.
