rubble garden
Derived from the fluid and spontaneous form of the improvised barricade, the reconfiguration of building components to counter failures in rural infrastructure is the model for applying a short-term re-allocation of resources for rapid-response and unsolicited built actions. Taking legal and semi-legal remodeling of built structures as the defining paradigm for revitalizing social and economic regions, the rubble that was generated from the partial demolition of the building was first used as seating, BBQ, and bar and then folded into the lawn wall.
The careful demolition of part of a former factory creates recreational social space for
an arts project. By seeking density effective techniques for low-density regions, we
arrive at a durational and velocity sensitive approach to redundant building stock.
The historical context of direct action underpins this vision of the future urban
editor speaking through a sped up, fluid architectural medium; testing spatial
resistance - the ease by which urban flows can be redirected. Living and
producing in the spaces initiated by these ideas represents the non-
technological future potential of the current urban infrastructure.
