President’s messageThe Summit is open and ready for you and your family. There are specials every night. Cribbage, and Texas Holdem are up and running. Remember you can order your pizza to go. If you have a special event, the pub can handle up to 100 and we can reserve for any size from 10 to 100.

The Pub is handling 3 dart leagues this year, which is keeping us very busy as we also have darts and pool on various days. In April, we were able to host a Daffodil shoot. Good to see the Pub busy as well.

We continue to get calls concerning the increased noise from the aircraft taking off from the new runway. I am noticing an increased number of flights that are not respecting the 10 degree deviation. We are getting more and more flights in the 20 to 25 degree deviation. Google “YYC Noise” for a complaint forms or call 403-735-1408. Note that YYC has changed the format of their complaint form and it is longer and not as easy to use.

The divider curtains that we installed in Sept have had repairs done. We had a choice to patch them or send them back to be reskinned. In January, we received our approved CFEP grant that we applied for last February. This grant also helped upgrade our security system.

We have scheduled our AGM for May 27. We are looking to have rep from the City Traffic attend but have not yet confirmed. We are concerned with the amount of speeding in the neighbourhood.

The annual Carnival is scheduled for June 1. There will be a breakfast from 8 until 10 am and games, karaoke and a magician from 11 until 2 pm.

Thanks again to Lacyne for helping to put this newsletter together.

How well do you know your community? There is no better time to get out and get to know your community and neighbours than the warm long days of June.

Take advantage of Neighbour Day on June 15th and spend some time touring your community and getting to know your neighbours.

“Communities with strong social networks are shown to be more resilient to the impacts of disasters and emergencies” says Sue Henry, Deputy Chief at the Calgary Emergency Management Agency. “Knowing who needs help

in your community can ensure everyone stays safe during an emergency and also gets the support they may need during recovery from an event. This can be important in communities where there may be language barriers and some members may need help understanding critical messages from first responders.”

While you are out and about, take note of where the resources and services are. These include things like bus stops, schools, fire stations, medical facilities and community association buildings.

At the same time, analyze your neighbourhood for risks and hazards. Some hazards like thunderstorms or tornadoes can happen anywhere, but other hazards are more specific to particular communities. These include major transportation corridors like road and rail, industrial centres, gas or oil wells, pipelines and bodies of water.

Visit calgary.ca/getready to enroll in The City of Calgary’s “Ready Calgary” course and learn the steps you can take to be safe at home, in the workplace and in your community.

editor’s messageIt is finally summer.

We have a few announcements for the Summer. Our community clean up will most likely be on June 15. Our AGM will be on May 27. The scholarship form is now available for you to fill out. Please read all of the requirements before submitting.

Our annual pancake breakfast is coming back. Join us at the community hall from 8 AM to 2 PM for games, music, prizes, and good food. All free! Everyone is welcome.

We are aware of traffic and speeding complaints within the community. Please send complaints to the city and make sure you say when and where the incident occured. The more people who report incidents, the higher our chances become of installing precautions such as speedbumps.
