October 2011 | Runway Fashion 3
Fashion was my inspiration ever since I was five years old and I remember this because I was one
of the few girls at that age who enjoyed preparing their outfits for school the next day. As I got older that
inspiration became highly influential because I learned much more about fashion: such as designers, styles,
trends, the difference between haute couture and ready to wear, and I used such knowledge to incorporate
them into my lifestyle.
I attended LA fashion week: Concept at Ace Gallery, and I have to say this event was quite an
amazing experience. The first thing that caught my attention when I stepped foot into the building, was the fact
that the runway shows were going to be showcased at an art gallery. I thought to myself what a great idea
to collaborate art and fashion together. In addition to that the installations at the art gallery were something
I have never seen before. It was like art had come to life and you felt as though you were part of the
installation. Having to walk into the installations and absorb the vibe of the designers work was a wonderful
opportunity. Mike Vensel one of my favorite installations, did an amazing job of bringing the past to life. He
had models displayed in a setting of luxury with the queen getting pampered and fanned, while the other
models were writing hieroglyphics on a rugged wall behind. The lights were dimmed with some candles lit,
and it was the perfect Egyptian ambiance one would expect.
After seeing the art, and the installations, I was ready to watch the runway shows. I saw the hype and
excitement all around me. People taking pictures and tweeting left and right made me anxious and excited
as well. A line started to form outside the entrance thus the anticipation grew more and more and this was
definitely shown throughout the guests faces. Luckily I did not have to wait in line and was entered with ease to
the show. People filled up the room, lights off, music on...let the show begin!
Models started to strut the collections of the designers down the runway. From flirty and fun styles of
Alana Hale, to the funky and daring looks of Bohemian Society, I have to say that this event was a sure fire
hit. From the art, to the installations, and the runway shows, LA Fashion Week: Concept did a splendid job in
incorporating all these categories together and giving the audience something to remember. This just makes
me wonder what ideas will Concept come up with next year, but whatever it is, it will be successful because
everyone loves LA fashion.

”“Something in your mix should knock even your best look off a pedestal.
Alana Hale is born and raised in Los Angeles, so it is not much
of a shocker that she has a passion for fashion. She has been
designing and marketing ever since she was a mini fashionista
in elementary school. Starting at the young age of 15, with a
design internship with FIDM, and a couple years later, studied
there too. She describes LA fashion as being more than just
casual, “it’s really worn with a laid back ease.” She has a love
for European fashion, therefore has incorporated that inspiration
into her new line. As a new LA fashion designer, Alana Hale’s
collection can be found at many boutiques, one being DASH
and the online store www.fashionstake.com.

is ONE Fashion and art are like one. Fashion can be inspired by art and art can be inspired
by fashion. This was proven when Ace Gallery owner Doug Chrismas wanted to get more
involved in the Fashion Industry. Henry Duarte, who has been involved in the LA fashion
and art scene for the past 20 years, was the go to person that Doug went to, to create that
fashion and art collaboration. Henry Duarte introduced Doug to Concept and so everything
fell into place. What better place to showcase designs and installations than a gallery with
blank canvases and open space? The collections of the designers will complete the blank
slate on the canvases with some vibrant colors, thus creating art, fashionably speaking.
Some of the art showcased at Ace Gallery seemed to have a connection with the
SS 2012 collection of Bohemian society. The artwork acquired a feel of street art and the
Bohemian Society collection had a street wear and edgy look to it. The bold, daring, and
resolute colors of both the art and collection are quite comparable to one another, and
easily deciphered once looked at.

WITH LEOPARD FEVERThe Leopard is known to be dangerous, fierce,
mysterious, and quite intimidating because of
the power it withholds. As young women we
all want to feel that same empowerment when
we walk into a room, of course though, with
our sense of style. Wearing that leopard print
reveals our inner sexiness and fierceness and
makes those around us to say “Watch out!”
just as we would when we’d see a leopard
approach. There was a high rise of leopard
prints spotted at the event. So many guests
were caught wearing the leopard print either on
their clothes, bags, or shoes. The leopard is a
versatile print, because it can be worn to make
one’s look much more fierce, or add it to a much
more mused outfit for a little loudness. However
you wear it, express your inner rawr-ness!
Whether on a purse, a pair of
shoes, or a blazer, this print is
loved by many guests. To the right
are shots of a few guests wearing
leopard prints.
