    General Information.

    Name of Village: Mardwadi

    Location of Rural area: Mardwadi is located in Sangli District in Maharashtra state.

    Population: 1959 (Census 2001)

    Total DUs (Dwelling Units): 218

    Total Individual Toilets: 216

    Introduction:

    Mardwadi is very small rural area located in Walva tehsil in Sangli district. It is one of

    the smallest villages which depend on Ashta as a small town located 6KM from this

    village. As this village is developed on the bank of river Krishna, this village is

    developed as agriculture village.

    Social Structure and Background:

    Being agriculture village only two classes are distinctively seen in this village and those

    are Farmers and Agriculture labor. For further social village symbiotic relationship this

    village is closely linked with nearby town. As all 12 castes and sub casts dependent on

    each other occupationally. System of barter is still followed in them.

    This village started developing as a farm land of nearby village Ashta. Reason of Abadi

    is big chunks of farm land of land lords in this area which is situated on the alluvial bank

    of river Krishna.

    Total Agriculture area of village: 160 Ha. (Approx.)

    Total area of village: 10 Ha. ( Approx.)

    Physical Infrastructure:

    Roads (Connectivity):

    Well connected with town. Tar roads are provided inside village. Road width varies from

    9.0 M to 4.5M wide roads.

    Public transport is not efficient. People use private conveyance from motor cycles to

    bicycles as per their affordability.

    As roads are running through agriculture land maintenance is much costly than other

    roads.

    Electricity:

    Village is 100% supplied with single phase electric connection.

    Under Akshay Prakash Yojana problem of power cut off is well solved.

    Water Supply:

    As ground water table is much higher at 40 to 60 level total village is well supplied with

    6 to 8 bore wells drawn by Grampanchayat.

    New water supply scheme by Central government is proposed in village. Under this

    scheme piped water is expected to start with primary water treatment at local level.

    abandoned due to expansion and bore well

    Toilet Facility:

    Under Nirmal Gram Yojana whole village is provided with individual toilet facility per

    dwelling unit.

    There are total 216 toilets for 218 DUs.

    Sewerage:

    All toilets provided with septic tank.

    Sewerage system is not required.

    Drainage:

    Village has gentle slope towards river side all storm water and drainage is collected at

    small pond outside village.

    Banana plants and many other water loving trees and bushes grown with this water.

    City is provided with open drain underlined with of RCC sections and channels.

    Fuel for cooking:

    As live stalk is significant in this village Gobar gas is used as cooking fuel.

    Sludge from Gobar Gas is used as good manure.

    Social Infrastructure:

    Health:One primary health care centre.

    Education:

    One school from 1st to 7th standard.

    2 Angan Wadis.

    School Angan Wadi

    Financial Institutions.

    This area is known for co-operative finance institutions.

    Even in this small village there are 3 societies and 2 co-operative dairies.
