• The Russian Revolution is the collective term for the series of revolutions in Russia in 1905-1917, which destroyed the Tsarist autocracy and led to the creation of the Soviet Union.

The political groups who inspired in its early stages.

• Liberals• Radicals.

Liberals.One of the group which looked to change society. Liberals wanted a nation which tolerated all religions. Liberals opposed uncontrolled power of dynastic rulers.

They wanted to safeguard the rights of individuals against governments.

Radicals. Wanted a nation in which

government was based on the majority of a country’s population.

They supported women’s suffragette movements.

They opposed the privileges of great landowners and wealthy factory owners.

Suffragette movements.A movement that give women the

right to vote..

Conservatives.

Conservatives were opposed to radicals and liberals.

Socialist. They were against private property.

They believed that the property should be controlled by society rather than single individuals.

Early socialist thinkers.

Robert Owen (1771-1858), a leading English manufacturer- believed in the idea of cooperatives. He sought to build a cooperative community called New Harmony in Indiana(USA).

Louis Blank(1813-1882) a French thinker, wanted the government to encourage cooperatives and replace

capitalist enterprises. These cooperatives were the

association of people who produced goods together and divided the profits according

to the work done by members.

KARL MARX(1818-1883) BELIEVED THAT TO FREE THEMSELVES FROM CAPITALIST EXPLOITATION, WORKERS HAD TO CONSTRUCT A RADICALLY SOCIALIST SOCIETY WHERE ALL PROPERTY WAS SOCIALLY CONTROLLED. THIS WOULD BE A COMMUNIST SOCIETY.

Support for socialism in Europe.

Socialist ideas spread through Europe.Workers in England and Germany began

forming association to fight for better living and working condition.

Eg: for Associations in Europe.1.Social Democratic Party(SPD)-Germany.2.Labour Party- Britain.3.Socialist party- France.
