PRESIDENTS ………………………………………………………………………………......Jim Aspaas & Mary Martin
Presidents’ report December 2017 “
This is the end of our tenure as Presidents of the Rustlers. We want to begin our final Presidents’ Report by thanking all of our Board and all of you who have helped us navigate this past year. It was an exciting year that had its ups and downs, but the good news is that the Rustlers have a new lease on life and hopefully, the club will embrace new ideas & leadership and will grow stronger in the New Year. We must let go of the “old ways of doing things” that worked wonderfully in the past when clubs had large member-ships and huge dances. Every square dance club now struggles with aging and shrinking memberships. We must stick together, cooperate, support and work together to keep our wonderful hobby going. It’s going to take ALL of us to survive into the future.
We hope that you will give as much support as you are able to Alice Baldwin & Dede Weatherwax and their Board during the coming year. They and the gracious members who will be doing most of the work of the club cannot do it alone. Your help is needed to set up and take down chairs & tables at the eleven dances. Bringing refreshments to about five dances isn’t too much to ask. Attending Visitations to other clubs is needed to support other clubs so that they will support us. If we are not welcoming and friendly to everyone who attends our dances and at all square dance functions, then others will not want to consider joining our club or coming to our dances. Take a turn at standing outside the doors to hug and greet visitors. We will need someone who may not be able to dance any longer to sit at the Single Rotations table, help Merlyn, our new Treasurer, or whatever else you may be able to do. We need each of you to do what you can. Thank you for saying “Yes, I will help!”
We know that the Rustlers can do this! We look forward to a great 2018 and
to dancing with you (after Jim’s knee heals). Please come to the Dec. 10th Rustlers’ Holiday Party at the Baldwin’s. We wish you a very Healthy and Happy Holiday Season. God bless you all.
With much gratitude, Mary & Jim

CHUCK WAGON: Hi Rustlers, We hope that you enjoyed the pumpkin pies for the November dance. We sure did! For the December dance, the Board will be providing cookies and fruit. If you would like to bring some yourselves, you are more than welcome. Our 50th anniversary dance will be here before we know it and we will be asking everyone to help put on a big spread to celebrate this auspicious occasion. Happy Holidays to all! Thanks to all of you, Janie and Rick

Miracles happen now and then. The Marie Callenders’s Restaurant that the club enjoyed a pre-Rustlers dance meal has re-opened, much to the delight of the folks who meet. So, we no longer will meet at the Waterfront Café on Brookhurst. Please join us at 13252 Brookhurst St, Garden Grove, CA 92843 at 5 p.m on Sat. Dec. 23rd prior to heading over to GGUMC hall to help set up for the dance.

NEEDED: SINGLES ROTATION TABLE VOLUNTEER(S)
A million thanks to Vel Straub who graciously sat at the Singles Rotation table pairing up guests and Rustlers’ members who did not have a partner so that they could dance. She volunteered to do this “job” for more than six years. This meant that she rarely got to dance herself. It is time for her “retirement” from the table.
Is there someone, male or female, who would like help with the Singles Rotation by either sharing the responsibility with someone else or doing it yourself? Would you consider sharing the responsibility on alternating months?
If no one will do the Singles Rotation, then it will cease. Thank you for considering this much needed task.
If a new Singles Rotation volunteer comes forward, then, Rustlers, please offer up one Tip or more to dance with those who have no partner. This applies mainly to the Rustlers’ men, but women who can dance in all positions are welcomed and thanked in advance too.
Thank you for your years of commitment, Vel!

NEEDED: RUSTLERS NEWSLETTER EDITOR
I’ve had some fun learning new skills as the Newsletter Editor this year. It’s been something that I didn’t seek out, but there was a need and as the President, the “buck stopped here”. I have begun the final issue for January 2018, our 50th Anniversary month. This will be the last time that I’ll be putting together our club’s newsletter. Please remember to make a copy of the second page of the January issue that will list the contact information for the 2018 Board alongside the list of all of our Rustlers Dances. Vel has graciously offered to continue sending you email reminders when something comes up, i.e., a Visitation, a Dance, an activity, etc. I hope that you thank her for doing this for you.
I must thank Karla Frias, who continued to help me throughout this year as I struggled to learn “Publisher” and couldn’t figure out how to do something. Her gracious assistance was invaluable and I couldn’t have “done it” without her.
I hope that you enjoyed my attempts at adding photos, always submitted and taken by Carol Woodcock (thanks, Carol), writing captions, finding fun clipart, trying to change the colors and attempting to make the newsletter interesting. As I rarely got any comments from anyone, I assume that I didn’t offend anyone, which is a good thing.
If you are interested in this position, please let me know and I will do my best to “teach you the ropes” so that the Rustlers’ Newsletter will continue. The Rustlers Square Dance Club has had a newsletter for 50 years and it would be a shame if the January 2018 will be the final issue.
