As we approach the half way mark of Term 4 the weeks get busier and more full both here at school
and at home. It is important for all families to ensure they keep a check on events through the news-
le er, the Bulle n and Compass messages. We always note that as the year draws toward the end
and the weather warms up, students can get quite red or some mes unse led. We appreciate your
con nued efforts with ensuring they have a healthy lunch & snacks each day, a drink bo le with wa-
ter only and get plenty of sleep at night to enable them to func on adequately.

MORE FROM OUR PARENT OPINION SURVEY
In 2 weeks me students will partake in the first of 4 Transi on Days. Our new Founda on students will be joining us at
school and students in all other year levels will transi on up to the next Year level for that me. Our Year 6s have had an
orienta on experience at high school during Ancient Histories Day and will partake in 2 days of transi on at RHS on the
10th & 11th December and at other secondary schools as per their melines.
Transi on days are about suppor ng your child to make an easier adjustment to their new year level, classroom, teacher
and peers. Children who make a posi ve start to school or their next stage of schooling are more likely to: • feel comforta-
ble, relaxed and valued • feel excited and mo vated to learn • have good rela onships with others • develop a sense of
belonging within the school community. We have con nued to refine the focus and ac vi es of these Transi on Days with
the goals being to support your child in familiarising themselves with their new environment in a friendly, stress-free way
and have been designed to:
encourage socialisa on
develop confidence and allay worries
experience some of the opportuni es that their next year level offers
meet the teachers and students they will work with in 2019 and begin the forma on of new rela onships

Proudly organised by the FUN & FUNdraising
Student Leadership Team
The Love of Learning Program was developed by The Pyjama Founda on to empower children in Foster Care with learning, life skills and confidence to change the direc on of their lives. Through a simple program known as the Love of Learning Program, volunteers called Pyjama Angels are matched with a child in care, and spend just one hour a week focusing on learning based ac vi es. Pyjama Angels read books aloud, play educa onal games, and help children with their homework. In that me, they demonstrate that this child is valued and loved.
Through our fundraising efforts, we will help the pyjama founda on achieve their goal of enhancing the lives of Aus-tralian children in care through educa on.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE A PART OF CREATING A NEW STORY IN
OUR HISTORY 100 YEARS ON?
IF SO, THEN WE NEED YOUR INVOLVEMENT.
Sunday 11th November marks the 100 year anniversary of the signing of the Armis ce. The Armis ce – a formal agreement of
11 November 1918 that ended figh ng on land, sea and air in World War I.
Rutherglen celebrated and par ed in the streets and the area next to the railway (the Lions Park) and the train sounded its
whistle at the me of Armis ce.
How can you be involved in the celebra ons in 2018?
The names of all the servicemen from our area will be displayed within a sandbagged area and a white cross with their
name on it will be placed in the sand as each name is read out.
We would love to have 40 members of our school community – students, parents etc. to place a cross in the sand as each
name is called out – other schools doing the same
We require as many students as possible, as we join with St.Mary’s School to sing the Australian Na onal Anthem
A wreath will be ed to every tree in the park. If students wish to make a wreath at home that they or their family would
like to e to a tree, they are welcome to do so. (this is op onal – we will also be making five wreaths at school)
SUNDAY 11TH NOVEMBER, 6PM~9PM @ RUTHERGLEN LIONS PARK
Students required to be at the park by 6pm for their involvement in the above ac vi es
* Students are not required to stay un l 9pm if families need to leave a er their child’s involvement
Free BBQ to follow
Presenta ons, Poetry and Performances following the BBQ
Please RSVP to Karryn Williams or Debby Renshaw if you are able to par cipate in this historic event to

Snapchat
Snapchat is

os, text, and draw-

has become hugely
popular, especially
with young people.

The appeal of Snapchat is
its supposed invisibility.
Once a message or picture
is ‘snapped,’ it instantly
evaporates into cyber-
space—supposedly never
to be seen again. The idea
that those messages are
gone once they are sent is
a no on that o en gets
users into hot water. The
snaps aren’t saved on the
sender’s end, but can be
saved and shared by other
users.
In se ngs select ‘ghost mode’ to block other people knowing where you are.
If you receive snaps and chats that make you uncomfortable tell parents or another adult if they receive an image or message that makes them uncomfortable. It’s always ok to tell.
Report bullying or other harassing messages to parents.
While Snapchat is the most popular social app for teens, the app isn’t for everyone. The allure of disappearing messages lulls users into a false sense of security to snap and chat messages that perhaps they normally would not send. In the cyber world, however, nothing is really gone for good.
Ask permission of others before pos ng them
in on Snapchat.

Term 4 Grandparents day was the best day
