We shall giveback
Despite all the hustle and bustle of the
nearing holidays the Grade 4s had been
extremely focused on their upcoming visit to
their chosen charity. This term we set out
collecting Easter eggs. A HUGE THANK YOU
goes to all who brought in Easter eggs. In
total we managed to collect 4395 eggs agargantuan amount!
On Wednesday the Grade 4 group went to
the Malibingwe Centre in Ebony Park
adorned with their bunny ears and 110 pairs
of extra ears for all the children at the Day
Care Pre-school Group.
We arrived laden with eggs and were
greeted by so many smiling faces and little
children with impeccable manners. After
kitting out all the children with their own
out to hide the Easter eggs.
The excitement was contagious
as we counted down to the big
hunt. As there was only a very
small courtyard wherein to hide
the eggs, we did it in groups.
After the Day Care children munched on
their eggs, our very own Grade 4s taught
the two to five-year-olds a song about the
Easter bunny.
Before we knew it, it was time to leave.
The amount of hugs and smiles that were
exchanged is a memory that wont be
forgotten!
We definitely gave back and at the same
time we also received so much from these
little children! What a feeling knowing how
happy Reddam has made so many people.
Bravo, Grade 4s! We are extremely proudof you.

THE DICTIONARY
A dictionary is like an English tutor:
Intelligent as a professor;It is an owl - a know-it-all.
It is a gateway to higher knowledge:
An exploration of nuances; An affirmation of parts of speech.
A ride through history.

There is not a particle of life which does not bear poetry within it. ~ Gustave Flaubert ~THE WORLD IN A POSTER
It lassoes my attention;It tells me a story;
It injects me with fascination. . .
Its colours drag me insideTo dawdle into another worldWhere trees and men never age
And rivers surge like a stampede of men.
There is a light in the caves depth It pulls me towards itself.I see a man in the musty cave:He gives me a pendant:
Remember the journey ...
The poster lassoes my imaginationAgain. . .

GRADE 8 VISIT GOLD REEF CITY
After studying the Industrial Revolution in South Africa for
History, the Grade 8s were able to see history come alive at
Gold Reef City. On the 28th of March we all left bright and
early with Mrs Plunkett and Mrs Marais in a bus.
When we arrived at Gold Reef City we were greeted by our
guide who was going to show us around the whole day. Our
first stop was the mines. We went through a wholeintroduction process and we all received blue helmets before
we entered the mines. To get inside the mines we went down
a vertical shaft, to level 5, which is 220m below the surface.
We saw where the miners worked a 100 years ago, in harsh,
difficult and quite scary conditions. It was claustrophobic and
dark in the tunnels, and with the demonstration of what a
drill sounded like very loud indeed!
Once we came back to the surface alive and well we were
taken to see a film describing why and how the city of
Johannesburg began and how mining was key to theIndustrial Revolution in South Africa. It was very informative
and really interesting to have a brief glimpse of the roots of
Johannesburg. We were allowed a short break and we
enjoyed the true Gold Reef theme park. Towards the end of
this amazing day we were taken to see gold being poured
into a bar. I think the one thing that shocked us all the
most was, how such a small bar of gold can weigh so
much one bar was 12kg.
After this interesting demonstration we were very
hungry, not for gold, but for real food. We all broughtlunch at Wimpy...Mmm.
As usual every great day must come to an end and so
we all hopped on the bus before rush hour, with our
minds enriched and stomachs full.

Grade 8 visits Animals in Distress.
Our class has adopted the local branch ofAnimals in Distress
as the charity that we support this year. On Thursday the 29th we
went to visit the animal hospital in Vorna Valley.
Most of the animals come from township areas. They have all
been maltreated and were never taken to a vet. We encountered
donkeys, sheep and goats. The most moving experience was our
encounter with a beautiful brown horse who had been injured so
badly that it was lying on the ground. It cannot move and has to
be turned every several hours. Another beautiful horse had a
disturbing scar on its face. The dogs have mostly been hit by
motorcars and are very frightened and aggressive. Seeing these
poor animals was a saddening experience. Most of us could not
hold back our tears. Some of us could not even look at the poor
animals.
This visit made us realise that there is an urgent need. There is
much that we can do to relieve the suffering of these creatures.
Please assist us in this cause.
APPEAL:
If you happen to have spare dog-bowls, leashes, a collar or any
other item that a doggie in distress can use, please bring them to
school next term for us to take across to Animals in Distress.
Perhaps you have an old dog kennel that is in your way. PhoneAnimal in Distress on 011- 4660261 and they will collect it from
your home. Please remember to mention that you are from
Reddam House Waterfall Estate.

What an exciting and exceptional first term this has been.
No-one would have believed a few months ago that after such a short time ofbeing in a new school we would have students involved in sports and culturalactivities, even competing against other schools in some cases; academic tours tovaried places; charity events from Easter egg drive to the Charity Fun Run, andso much, much more. It makes me proud to be the director of Reddam HouseWaterfall because our students and our teachers are committed in every way.
We have packed our boxes and it is with great anticipation and excitement thatwe will be moving to our new campus next week. The school is beautiful and hasbeen designed to cater for all our needs and more and no money has been sparedto ensure that our campus will provide outstanding education.
To all who worked indefatigably to make our first term at Reddam HouseWaterfall a success this term from academics to extracurricular activities and toadministrative duties, I thank you and I look forward to a vibrant Term Two.
We wish our Christian students, teachers and parents a Happy Easter. We alsowish all our Jewish families and teachers as well as the entire Jewish communitya hearty Chag Sameach, a Happy Pesach. If you are travelling, may you reachall destinations safely. Have a peaceful and happy holiday.
George BaliosDirector
