Kicking off the Erase the R-word Campaign

January 20th, 2010

We started off this meeting by watching a PSA for the Erase the R-word Campaign. What was really neat, is that our

guest speaker for today was in the video. And so was

“Jimmy” from The Ringer, which we saw a clip from at

our last meeting.

Guest SpeakerChristine Victory from the Humble-

Kingwood Special Olympics was our Speaker. She talked about some of

the things she does as a Special Olympics Athlete.

She also showed us all the different sports that her team participates in.

They talked about how we could play on a team with the Special

Olympics Athletes.

After Christine, we learned about what the R-word meant and why we wanted to pledge to erase it. We talked about starting a school wide fundraiser called “Put a lid on the R-word”. Students could pledge to erase the R-word, buy one of the R-word stickers for $1.00, and then the next day they could wear a cap

to school all day!

We set a goal to collect 200 signatures of people who would pledge to Erase the

R-word with us. After only one week and

our first “Put a lid on the R-word”

Campaign we already have almost 600!
