A Swift Messenger in Time of NeedTo EVERYBODY there comes, suddenly, thegreat emergency-the occasion when, re-gardless of all else, tlle desperate humanneed stands first and alone. To find somebody, to carry word to

somebody, to get somebody's advice, tobring somebody quickly, to learn some-body's final answer is for the moment theone, all-important purpose.Have you ever stopped to consider how

great a part the telephone plays in themeeting of such emergencies?Even our daily routine is a succession of

lesser emergencies. Satisfactory living inthis complicated world consists largely ingrasping situations as they arise, one after

another -solving each promptly, finally, and getting on to the next. We dare not bealways just a little too late.

It is because of all this that the telephoneis so essential and helpful in the dailylife of so many people. To millions ofhomes it brings security, happiness andthe opportunity for larger achievement.

Your home is safer-life moves more smoothly-when you have extension telephones in the roomsyou use most. The cost is small, especially twhenyou consider the time and steps saved, the in-creased comfort and privacy. Installation can bemade quickly, at the time you set. FOR HIGH PRECISIONIN MEASURINGELECTROLYTICCONDUCTIVITY

(14 actual size)

T HIS Bridge is based on the studies of Professor Grinnell Jonesof Harvard, and makes possible a new and hiigher order of pre-

cision in measurements of electrolytic conductivity. The resistors in the Jones bridge have, at 2000 cycles p. s. or less,an effective a.c. resistance that is within 0.001 percent of their d.c.resistance. Residual capacitances and inductances are negligible. These unusual characteristics arise from the fact that the resistorsare not wound, but are woven to a recently developed pattern. For checking or calibration, each resistor may be compared directlywith Bureau of Standards type standards, withont the use of aux-iliary apparatus. The ratio coils are adjusted to within 0.01 per-cent of each other, and are connected by a slidewire, so that theratio arms may be brought to exact equality. Condensers areprovided for balancing residual capacitances, including that ofthe conductivity cell. A modified Wagner earth connection isprovided for bringing the detector to earth potential. Shieldedtransformers for input and output are provided. In brief, greatprecaution has been taken to make this instrument capable of thehighest precision. We shall be glad to send complete details onrequest.
