In English we have written a character description of the Wicked Witch of Windmill Woods for our Enchanted Woods writing. This week, we have discussed and created exciting poems about fireworks and Bonfire Night which has included lovely descriptive vocabulary using our senses. Next week, we will begin planning our own party and writing invitations for people to attend! In maths we have been working on our addition and subtraction. So far we have learnt how to add a 2-digit number to ones and tens and we are currently learning how to add two 2-digit numbers. We will then look at subtracting different numbers. In Science we have been learning about animals and their babies and looking at and describing some ani- mal life cycles. Nightingale Class Update

Nightingale Class has already been working super hard this term! In English we have written a

character description of the Wicked Witch of Windmill Woods for our Enchanted Woods writing.

planning our own party and writing invitations for people to attend!

We are very much enjoying our forest school ses-

sions, despite the rainy weather this week! The chil-

dren have been busy building dens, using the tools to

make things from wood and also using the new wood-

en table at the woods to prepare and serve their

snacks. We can’t wait to see what they will be doing in

the next four sessions down in the woods!

This term in computing we are looking at algorithms and programming computers using sets of instructions. This week, we cre-ated a set of picture instructions on how to build a Lego model.

NEWSLETTER 9TH NOVEMBER 2018

Since term one, Rhys has embarked on a selfless campaign to raise as much money as he could for The Poppy Appeal. I am sure everyone has seen him selling the poppies before school and after school - never missing a day and never complaining about the hard work and determination it was going to take to reach his target. Here is Rhys's story about his Poppy Appeal journey: I wanted to do it to show my respect for all the soldiers that died in battle. I wanted to try and sell one hundred which is £150 but I've ended up making £289.50 which shocked and amazed me. My Nan made all the poppies and doesn't want any money and wants it all to go to charity - which I think is a great place for it to go. I really want to say a huge thank you and well done to my Nan be-cause it takes roughly 45 minutes to make one poppy. So you can work out how many hours she must have put in if we made £289.50. Thank you for all your support - we couldn't have done it with-out you! Well done, Rhys! We are hugely proud of you and all you have achieved. You deserve a million gold stars but we can only give you one! Enjoy your gold star bounce next term!

P & F Update

The P&F Committee would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who attended and also to those who helped at the Big Bang Firework display on Saturday. The event was a huge success and equally importantly, really good fun. We hope you all had a great time with your friends and family and we appreciate the support you showed to the school. Next Friday is fun day! Children can wear non-school uniform to school in exchange for a donation of chocolate towards our Christmas Chocolate tombola, plus it’s disco time after school with our “Wear Whatever you Like” disco. A letter came out detailing the disco this week and included a slip so you can pre-book some food to keep the energy levels up! Hard copies of the letter are available in the school reception. A huge well done and thank you to the committee and helpers for their hard work with the Big Bang fireworks - what a spectacular evening! The committee has lots of events coming up that they would like helpers for. Please see Eve Hallett if you would like to volunteer.

On 20th November, the school photographer will be coming in to take individual photographs of the children. Should anyone wish to have family groups / sibling photos taken, please bring your chil-dren in to the hall before school starting at 8.20 a.m. Thank you.

Remembrance Assembly

Mr Digby led a very moving Remem-brance assembly yesterday. He taught the children about the importance of Remembrance Day and shared some of his own experience of being in the army.

Some children from Darwin Class read the poem, ‘In Flanders Fields’ beautifully. Craft club made poppy wreaths and a soldier cov-ered with hand made poppies. Thank you, Mr Digby, and all the children for the incredible respect they showed.
