REAL ENGLISH — ESL FOUNDATION PROGRAM

The Real Institute’s ESL Foundation Program is designed for students who have met academic qualifi-cations for admission to a Ryerson University undergraduate program, but do not meet the minimum English proficiency requirements.

The program is also suitable for students seeking to improve their English language proficiency in order to enhance their chances for admission to other English-language universities. Program cost for non-degree seeking students may be offered at a reduced rate. [See Real English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program].

CURRICULUM

Depending on your level of proficiency (IELTS 5.0, 5.5, 6.0 or equivalent) you will be placed in a one-, two- or three- semester program to develop and refine the academic reading and writing skills needed to succeed in a Ryerson under- graduate program. You will also learn practical communication strategies that will help you gain confidence in your academic and social interactions.

Each week consists of up to 24 hours of instructor-led classes and a variety of group-based experiential learning opportunities customized to meet individual learning needs. You will also take an undergraduate degree course – CLNG 111: Language and Identity – as part of the curriculum, which can be counted as credit towards your Ryerson University degree program of choice.

Our instructors are leaders in the field of English language acquisition who integrate technology and students’ lived experiences into the classroom.

“ Ryerson is Canada’s leader in innovative, career-focused education.” QS UNIVERSITY RANKINGS
