    Sw€anngen, 82, of Sigourney, died Thurs., Feb. 3, 2005, at his home.

    He was born Jan. 8, 1923, in Winfield, the son of George and Priscilla (Bretz) Swearingen. He graduated from Winfield High School and received his B.S. from Iowa State University, where he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. He married Marian Smith in Mavwood, Ill. on J'..lne 18, 1949. He taught Vocational Agriculture at Sigourney Community Schools for 27 years, retiring in 1976 and served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 1979 until 1988. He was a member of the Sigourney United ·Methodist Church, 50 year member of Webb Lodge # 182 A.F. & A.M., where he was Past Master, 50 year member of Aspasia Chapter # 198 O.E.S., where he was Past Patron, Kaaba Shrine, Consistory and an honorary member of Alpha Zeta. He enjoyed being with his family, watching his grandchildren play sports and fixing things.

    He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Sue Marie of Iowa . City and Barbara Goodale of West Chester, Pa.; one son, George, Jr. "Bob" of Sigourney; seven grandchil-dren; one sister, Evelyn Hanson ofVentura, Calif.; and one brother, Donald Dean of Waukee.

    ' iUJowa City. He was bm;n Jan. 31, 1941.

    in Hayesville! the son of Hubert and #elen Woodard Gilliland. He married Kay Wymore on Nov. 9, 1963. He graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1959 and from William Penn College in 1971. He served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969. He taught gove:rnment, econom-ics and psychology at Sigourney Hi~h School from 1971 until his retirement in May 2004. He was a member of NEA, ISEA, Keokuk Cpunty Retired Teachers Association, a lifetime member of the NRA, a member of Poweshiek County Sportsmen's Club, Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited and IKES. He took stats for the Sigourney /Keota football team for 32 years and was an instructor for Hunter Education for 30 years. He was also involved with the Boy Scouts for many years. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing, photography, writing poetry. spending time out-doors, traveling, reading, being in the mountains and competing in. high power rifle matches.

    She is survived sons, Paul, Roy and Oskaloosa and Pat c one daughter, Carla S~ Oskaloosa; 12 grande and seven great-grz dren.

    She was preceded i by her parents: her h• one daughter, Paula one son, Robert; a grandchildren, !\ Andrew, Jamie, Arr Melissa.
