HOLIDAY HOMEWORK

CLASS II

Month of May brings long, hot days, And now we have our summer holidays. Little homework , easy to be done, Lesser studies and lots of fun. Playing and talking and travelling to places, Fun continues till the end of June. This beautiful time comes once in a year, Summer holidays are best days ever.

Dear Parents, HURRAY! Summer holidays are here! A time for family vacation and lots of fun! It’s time for new activities, playing, swimming, riding bikes, travelling and merrymaking!!! We want to enhance your summer experiences with your child by suggesting

activities which will promote learning through fun! So, wherever you are – at home, on a road trip or visiting family and friends, these activities will add to your enjoyment .

BEAT THE HEAT- Teach your children how to make cool and tasty ‘fruitails’ with mango , lemon,watermelon,muskmelons and many more . Teach them the names of these fruits in Hindi as well. TRY A MOUTH WATERING RECIPE- Spread a layer of cake or jelly in a dish , top it with a thick layer of vanilla ice-cream and add a layer of mango , cut into cubes. Garnish with a few cut strawberries. WALK TOGETHER- Go for walks with the family. You will realize you have two of the greatest gifts of God…. NATURE AND YOUR FAMILY. Do not forget to thank god for these gifts.

BECOME HISTORIANS- Visit a popular monument and stimulate your child’s curiosity. Tell them about the monument . Show them relevant pictures. You can sustain their interest by telling them interesting facts about that era- dress, food, habits etc THE JOY OF READING- How can the summer holidays be complete without reading? Make sure that your child has ample reading material . Atleast an hour of daily ‘ reading together’ time should be set aside. Children can be encouraged to make their own bookmarks. Introduce your children to Hindi Amar Chitra Katha , Jatak tales and Panchtantras along with Hindi champaks too.

STORY NARRATION TIME- Let’s become a story teller. In order to ensure that our children read, SHOW AND TELL can be done in the class post vacations about their favourite book. Simple visual aids can be used for the aforesaid. The narration of the child can broadly have – �The name of the story and the author. � Name of the main or their favourite character and a small description about the character.

LEARNING BY DOING: ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO FOLLOW THROUGH ON SIMPLE CHORES AT HOME LIKE: � Laying the table for lunch and dinner, helping you in the kitchen , making the bed, making simple drinks like mango squash or lemonade for the whole family . �Encourage your child to practice packing his/her bag according to the school timetable and to keep his/her room clean and well organized. � Also, the children should be reminded to spend time with their grandparents and help them. � Encourage your children to join any one of the hobby classes to enhance their skill and pursue their interest for fruitful utilization of their time. After the visit to any of the above places, AN ATTRACTIVE PICTIONARY can be made by pasting pictures and writing one fact about them like an ANIMAL PICTIONARY can be created by pasting the pictures of wild and pet animals and writing a fact about the animals or a SPACE PICTIONARY can be created by the child to enhance their vocabulary and learn more in a playful manner.

3.Disney Channel PLAY OUTDOOR GAMES – Computer games are good. They sharpen your intellect but what about the rest of your body?? You do need some exercise, don’t you? Go cycling, play badminton, cricket, kho-kho, hide ‘n’ seek….. anything that will make you run.

SPOT THE ERRORS- The hoardings, writing behind buses and trucks are at times full of spelling mistakes. Point them out to your child and tell them to correct the spellings. WORD BANK- Encourage your children to write on a piece of paper , any new word that they learn in English or Hindi and to collect them in a decorated shoe-box. MATHS ON CARS- Use numbers on the license plates of cars and other vehicles to practice addition or subtraction while travelling. SPIN A YARN- Pick up any situation and weave a story around it. Each family member has to contribute to the progress of the story.

EATING AT RESTAURANTS- Your child feels very grown up and important if you let him/her order from the menu for the whole family. KNOWING THE WORLD AROUND US- Let’s play a ‘GLOBE GAME”. Spot India and the neighboring countries on the Globe and talk about their: � Food- ‘Don’t forget to try their cuisines’ �Culture �Dresses �Festivals

LET’S BECOME AN ECO BUDDY- Encourage children to create their own pencil holders or anything of their use for their rooms using waste materials. Bring back anything that they create to the School. Time spent with your child during the summer vacations can be productive, rewarding and memorable. Take the time to enjoy with your children and be careful not to overschedule them with activities and plans. Give them time to relax and play. Remember the best gift you can give your child is your time and for them to have fun with you. Have a great summer!!!
