Think, O God, of our friends who are ill, whom we now commend to Your compassionate regard. Comfort them upon their sickbed and ease their suffering. We beg for deliverance, and submit that no healing is too hard for the Lord, if it be His will. We therefore pray that You bless our friends with Your loving care, renew their strength, and heal what ails them in Your loving name. Thank you Lord

PRAYER FOR SEMINARIANS

O Lord Jesus Christ, great High Priest, I pray that you call many worthy souls to your holy priest-hood. Enlighten the Bishop and Vocation Director in the choice of candidates, the Spiritual Directors in molding them, and the professors in instructing them. Lead the seminarians daily in your unerring footsteps, so that they may become priests who are models of purity, possessors of wisdom, and heroes of sacrifice. May they be steeped in humility and aflame with love for God and man, apostles of your glory, and sanctifiers of souls. Mary, Queen of the Clergy, pray for us. Amen

DAILY PRAYER FOR PRIESTS

Eternal Father, we lift up to You these and all the priests of the world. Sanctify them. Heal and guide them. Mold them into the likeness of Your Son, Jesus, the Eternal High Priest. May their lives be pleasing to You. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Please pray for the following:

What is Easter in time of self-isolation? What is Easter in a time where there are no public masses? Should Easter be postponed? Easter is a result of the action of God and therefore is eternal. There can be no end to the act; therefore, Easter comes whether or not we celebrate it publicly. A better question is, what does Easter mean for us in a time like this. I believe that Easter means more, not less. In Jesus’ day, the apostles were not prepared for the Passion of Jesus, even though Jesus t ried to prepare them. The apostles were complacent. They lived more according to their own vision than that of God. Jesus’ response was to pray for them and offer himself in sacrifice. What does Jesu do in this time? He offers himself for our salvation, and he prays for us. The question is, how do we respond to Jesus' gift. Life is a journey, and Jesus goes before us in this journey. Consider St. Peter. Peter is bold, but he often puts his foot in his mouth. He also fails to comprehend the necessity of the Cross. Jesus tells Peter that Satan has “demanded to have you [plural], that he might sift you [plural] like wheat, but I have prayed for you [singular] that your faith may not fail; and when you have turned again, strength-en your brethren.” This is Jesus' response to Peter; it is also His response to us. Our faith is being tested. Many have their faith shaken; others abandon it totally. For us all, Jesus prays and offers himself to the Father. Myself, I am particularly heartened by Jesus' prayer for Peter that his “faith may not fail” and to “strengthen your brethren,” he turns again. Even the best of us cannot succeed in the trials of this earthly life without Jesus, but we are not forgotten. The joy and the miracle of Easter is not the marvelous faith of the Apostles. It is not even the faith of Mary, who believed that Jesus would rise. The miracle and the joy of Easter is the love of God. Jesus was abandoned by all, even His very own, yet He still prayed for them. Jesus even prayed for those who put Him to death. Jesus goes before us in our own suffering that we may be saved even through our suffering. Consider Peter. He was an outstanding apostle before the crucifixion of Jesus, and yet His faith was not enough. One would think that the humiliation of denying Jesus would disqualify Peter from service. Instead, because of Jesus' sacrifice and prayer for Peter, Peter is made more ready for his role than before. He is purified by the experience of his humiliation and the Crucifixion of Jesus. It is a miracle of God’s grace. How do we prepare ourselves to receive the grace of God? We do so with faith. Peter dared to hope when he heard of the Resurrection. Indeed he ran to the tomb to see if it were true. Again, when Jesus appeared on the shore as the apostles were fishing he jumped out of the boat to return to him. Peter responds to the graces, and God blesses him. Thomas, the apostle, doubted. He did not think a return was possible. For him, perhaps it seemed that the sin of the crucifixion of Jesus was too much. Jesus came to Thomas, too, and met him in his weakness. Thomas was turned from his doubt to faith. Jesus meets each of us where we are. Jesus provides grace for us all. Do we dare to hope in Him? What is unique about our celebration of Easter this year is that in a new way, we are invited to cele-brate interiorly. Much of the secular celebration of Easter will be muted by circumstances. We are invited to consider Jesus anew. Far from abandoning us, we are invited to experience Jesus in a new way. As wonderful as this is, it is not all of what God wants to do. Just as Jesus preceded the apostles to Galilee, so He proceeds us. There is much more to be done. Let us go in faith to Galilee., to the place that God has prepared for us. Let us open our hearts to instruction. Let us read the scriptures and reflect on Jesus' Post-Resurrection appearances. Finally, through these 40 days of Easter, let us pray for the coming of the Holy Spirit. Peter and the Apostles required the Holy Spirit to go out, transcend themselves, and preach the Gospel. Let us take Jesus at His word and pray. We have had a long Lent. In my mind, lent does not continue though we are still required to stay in our homes. Instead, we find new instruction by Jesus much as the Apostles did, who also locked themselves in their homes. Let us then turn our way of imagining this time as a time where Jesus visits us in our homes and instructs us, converting our fear to faith. Fr. Campeaux
