Report from Cardwell 2014. Well Cardwell 2014 has been and gone, with 3 sets gracing the floor this year. This was the best attendance we have seen for a few years which was great to see. Saturday start-ed with a Round Dance session first which seen seven couples on the floor and this was great to see. A session of Squares followed with three sets on the floor. Our general meet-ing then followed. The night session started off with rounds then squares following. Through out the night there was plus and a few line dances to get every one up on the floor. We would like to thank the QCA for sending Jan Hay and their donation to Cardwell, and to the Society for their support donation for the hall hire and bonds and for sending Lyn up to meet everyone. Cardwell date for 2015 has been pencilled in for the 8
th and 9
th August, the council wont
take bookings this early but have said that the date is available and have put the date aside for us. I will be in contact with them again in January to confirm this date again. Yours in Dancing Julie Jensen North Queensland Vice President.
Report on Cardwell Weekend The Cardwell dance was held on Saturday 9
th August 2014 at the Cardwell Community
Hall. The afternoon session kicked off with a Round Dancing. Julie Jensen from Townsville was the Cuer for the dance and she also invited me to cue during the afternoon. The afternoon Square Dance session was attended by three squares of dancers. The call-ers were Darryl Burrows and Bradley Milton from Townsville, Graham Durose from Cairns, Jan Hay (QCA Representative) and myself. The dancing was a good standard and all of the dancers were friendly and inclusive. I was made feel very welcome and both Jan and I received sincere compliments for our contributions to the programme. The Saturday evening dance started with rounds and once again, three squares danced during the evening. It was great to see some line dancing included in the programme. I was impressed to see clubs from both Cairns and Townsville had made the effort to have club uniforms and it was nice to see their enthusiasm on the dance floor. A monster supper topped off a great night. I would encourage any dancers travelling North to include the Cardwell weekend on your calendar. Beautiful area, friendly people - what more could you ask for. It was a fantastic experience that I thoroughly enjoyed and I thank the Society for sending me as representative. SUNCOASTERS
On the first weekend in August, many dancers at Suncoasters enjoyed a fabulous three days of dancing to American caller, Jerry Jestin. We had many happy visitors who helped to make up twelve squares of dancers There were many from interstate and from other Queensland localities. We even had one couple who came from New Zealand for the dancing. Jerry was definitely in top form. On the third weekend in August, the club held its annual Garage Sale to help with funding a new roof for our hall and this was a very successful day. Gary Petersen has now returned from his trip to Germany which he en-joyed and we welcome him back. Pam Edwards

SOCIETY CHRISTMAS PARTY - BUS TRIP & ACCOMMODATION
We are looking for expressions of interest in taking a bus to Bundaberg for the Society Christmas Party on Saturday 22nd November 2014.
Accommodation will be at Alexandra Apartments in Dr Mays Road. It will be shared rooms. We have 3 x 3 bedroom apartments ( 1 Queen, 1 Double and 2 Singles), 4 x 2 bedroom (1 Queen and 1 Double) and 3 x 3 bedroom (1 Queen and 2 single). They are fully self-contained. This will help with keeping costs down.
The bus will be doing the first pickup at Logan, the second at Chermside and the third at Buderim, hopefully with a comfort stop there also, then on to Bundy, arriving early afternoon.
We will attend the dance in the evening and again on Sunday morning. The bus will leave Bundaberg as soon as possible after the dance and stop at Caltex Apple Tree Creek, 40 mins out of Bundaberg (lunch) and then travel on to home.
- Cost will be $100.00 per person. - To reserve your place on the bus, please make your booking with June by 20th September. - To secure your booking, a $50.00 deposit is required by 28th September. SOCIETY MEMBERSHIP REMINDER
Have you forgotten to pay your membership for the coming year with the Society. Memberships were due on the 30th June, and it only costs $10.00 per year, but there is still time to pay. Just remember that you are not covered by insurance if you have not paid. If you were not already a member why not consider joining and getting the benefits of membership. Concession at all big dances run by the Society and insurance cover to and from the dances you attend.

Rambling Eights - Salisbury - Caller: David Pearce
It seems so long ago, but I must mention that David and Faith were pleasantly
surprised at the attendance for our Christmas in July Dance. They were happy to
welcome so many visitors from quite a few clubs around Brisbane and thanked all the
dancers who helped make this a special night. The supper was extremely well supplied
and organised by Hazel and helpers. David particularly enjoyed the choc-coated
strawberries and Teagan’s suggestion as supplied by Doug and Wendy - hot chocolate
with marshmallows.
Another wet winter night in August and pizzas were a welcome addition to the menu
for supper. Instead of cakes and biscuits with our cuppa we had a variety of pizzas to
choose from, along with garlic bread and a fruit platter supplied by Doug and Wendy.
With Pizza Hut so close, pick up is an easy option, and the rain eased at the right time.
Our next theme night is “Jungle” on 19th September, when we hope the weather is
warmer for Tarzan and Jane outfits. For the more conservative, or perhaps more
sensible, break out your safari suits or release the wild animal within. All creatures
will be welcome and as the following Friday is part of the State Convention there will
be no dancing on 26th September. On 3rd October we are offering discount admission
of $6.00 for those who attended on 19th Sept prior to Convention and came back on 3rd
Oct after the Convention.
Our newest dancers are all progressing well, so that mainstream moves are being
workshopped to start each night, followed by fun and friendly dancing, with plus after
supper depending on numbers.
Hoping to see many smiling faces at our club and the State Convention.

HERVEY BAY SQUARE DANCE CLUB
Hi everyone from the Bay. There is not much to report on last Month. We have been struggling for numbers lately. Four are on the sick list and we send our very best wishes to Jean and Keith who are in hospital. There are at least nine on holidays, some overseas, so the ones left are keep-ing the home fires burning. Our pancake night was fun and we played Rummicub and cards; nice for a change. We are a close bunch of friends and always enjoy each others compa-ny no matter what we are doing. Saying of friends, it was our pleasure to wel-come Maya and Ray to dance plus with us on their way north. We all enjoyed their visit. We are celebrating Senior's Week by doing a demo at our "new" Stocklands Shopping Centre. The centre has trebled in size and has only been opened a few weeks so we are hoping for a good crowd. On the 6th September we will be welcoming Glenn Wilson to call for us. The theme is Fantasy. Plus starts at 2.00 pm till 4.30 pm and Mainstream starts at 7 pm. Glenn is a great caller so we are hoping to see dancers from Maryborough and afield. You will be greeted with open arms. Then it will be Convention time. CANE COUNTRY SQUARES Cane Country Squares Sausage Sizzle held on 8th August really was "Deluxe" as the name described it with the nice display of tasty salads and sweets, before dancing the night away. Shirley's Christmas pudding (minus the rum because it wasn't Christ-mas) was enjoyed by all. It was very pleasing to have so many of our learners join in. It provides a great opportunity to get to know each other better in a social atmos-phere.
We are always pleased to welcome Norm Grunwald to dance with us when he is visiting Bundaberg. Being a past member of our club he already knows many of our dancers.
Jo, one of our lady learners won the $20.00 membership draw for July, and on the same night another learner, Ladislsow, won a lovely cake raffled that night. It is good to see them entering into the fun of the evening.
Our Club received GOOD NEWS a few weeks ago. Dancers are excited to hear about the release of Matthew"s first square dance record to the tune of "Pink Shoe Laces" . Congratulations Matthew. A big celebration party was held at the Mill's house on the weekend of 16/17 August for Anita's 30th Birthday. It was also Matthew's birthday within a couple of days. Happy Birthday to you both.
Congratulations from Cane Country Squares to Alan Evans on achieving 40 years of calling and to Jane for all the assistance she has given to enable him to do this. Five of our members travelled to Buderim to join in the dancing to Jerry Jestin's calling. All agreed it was another good weekend of dancing.

Cairns City Square Dance Club
It has been a busy month for members with our usual Friday night dances and monthly Plus night.
12 members travelled to Cardwell and all had a good time enjoying dancing and fellowship with other clubs. Cardwell is such a lovely spot to stay and to take a look around whilst there.
Last Friday night our club held its annual Golden Memories Dance which was well attended with visitors for U3A and Ulysses clubs. We had our usual delicious supper afterwards. We have also had more visitors from Germany and Renee is back in the north and taking a break in our lovely winter climate from cold Sydney. WAVELL WHIRLAWAYS
On EKKA Wednesday night we started a little early with a great Pot Luck Dinner. Entrees, followed by soup, then on to the mains which were many and varied. Dessert followed, Apple pies, Cheesecakes, Apple crumble, Black Forest Cake, Icecream and more. Clean up time and ready to dance. A big thank you to all who helped in any way with the setup and decorating of the hall, serving of the meals, washing up, taking down of tables, and an extra big thank you to Sid Murray for mopping the floor after the meal before we danced.
Along one wall of the hall we had tables set up so that we could display craft if we wished. This was also varied. We had crocheted dresses, toys, rugs, even a beautiful doily that had been made around 1918 as a tribute to the Anzacs and the Armistice. Also on display needle point, decoupage, and more.
A big thankyou to Kristy and her helper for organising the games and prizes on the night and for putting together the icecream sundaes which ended the night as our supper. It is with great pleasure we can announce the engagement of Sid and Betty’s eldest daughter Cindy to Shane. We wish them all the best for their future together. June

Saturday 16th August saw us have a combined night with our afternoon
beginners and our evening Club members. As the afternoon finishes around 5.00pm it was decided to have a combined basket tea for those who wished to join us before the evening session. We had just over four sets dancing the evening away with games of coin toss, ring toss, and knock’em downs and pot-shots during the night. Again a big thankyou to all who attended and helped in any way to making the night the success it was. Good to have Lynette back after her trip to Cardwell. June

At our Wednesday dance on the 13th August, the country came to the city when we held our Ekka night.
A number of bushies, country gents and their ladies were in attendance and wide-brimmed hats were much in evidence.
A sweet little clown called in from sideshow alley and a Friesian cow wandered in from the show ring. Just a thought, whatever happened to those pretty caramel coloured jersey cows that I remember from my childhood? Lashes to die for!
To add to the authentic Ekka experience, hot dogs and strawberry ice-cream cones were served to the dancers. Two guest callers David Pearce and Peter Storey were made wel-come and appreciated by the five squares on the floor and “Country Hick” Alan was in top form as usual.

STEPPING OUT WITH CLOGGING How does she do it? Yet another great weekend at AUSSIE CLOG has been organised by Olive Borovsky and her team of co-workers. A healthy late flurry of registrations will see regular partakers of the Kindilan experience welcoming new blood to the weekend Clogging Camp, including Kingsley Dawes and Glenn Dale from Western Australia, both self-described ‘Aussie Clog Virgins.’ All States will be represented, bringing to the weekend amongst the gum trees a wonderful feeling of friendship, mutual enjoyment and learning experiences. Back in town for a visit was Margaret Hendren, now a Bundaberg resident, who brought her keenness for dancing and her great sense of humour to Double Jingle Club’s Thursday morning session; we hope to see you more often, Margaret. VALE to our dear friend, Rae Kermond who was, along with her late husband Russell, one of the driving forces behind the formation of the Australian Clogging Association and Moonshine Clogging Club in Gympie. Rae was also the first Secretary and Treasurer of the ACA. Russell and Rae were also involved for many years in Square Dancing. Rae was a long time member at Moonshine Cloggers in Gympie before she went into retirement on the Gold Coast where she passed away in June. Always remembered.
Gail Ross, Leader of Fancy Shuffle Cloggers in Bundaberg, has decided to pack up her shoes and cue sheets and reluctantly call it a day.
