Dear Friends,

Grace and peace to you. Paul prayed in Ephesians,

Ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, 16 I have not stopped giving

thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Fa-

ther, may give you the Spirit[f] of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your

heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious in-

heritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the

mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead.

Paul is writing to the people of the church who he has not seen for a while. That is somewhat how I feel at the ending of

every summer. Summer for us is a time for travel, sailing, cabins, you name it. It is a “come and go” affair. It is a short

time of warmth and sunshine. But somewhere in the back of our minds there is an omnipresent thought of February,

blowing winds and cold.

September is our time to re-connect. Fall is a time to come back to church on a regular basis to meet and greet known

and new friends. It is a safe time to say, “I’ve missed you” because your sisters and brothers in faith have been coming

and going just like you. September is a time to reset our church life—to find time to worship together and discover plac-

es to be connected. Summer is for re-creation. Fall is for reconnect and a whole new manner of re-creation.

Paul wrote to the church in Colossus,

Just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as

you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Walking in faith and being a church is both individual and corporate. Each of us has a responsibility for our own personal

discipleship—to worship, to read and meditate on scripture, to pray. We also have a corporate responsibility to offer and

engage in opportunities to grow in the faith. In so doing each of us being proactive and intentional will grow as disciples

and leaders which will affect our homes, church, and community. As a church, we will be a faithful group of disciples who

will affect our homes, community, nation, and maybe in some small way the world.

These are not easy times to be a Christian. These times are not easy to be the body of Christ. These aren’t easy times to

be a United Methodist. Yet we are called and united together by Jesus Christ. The writer of Hebrews tells us,

The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes

life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see. The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors, set them above

the crowd. [The Message]

I look forward to these coming weeks as we reconnect and God re-creates among and through us.

May the peace of Christ be with you,

BRIDGE WALK

Our church van will be taking people north to the Big Mac Bridge on Labor Day, Monday, Sep-

tember 2nd for the annual bridge walk. We will be leaving the church EARLY at 4:45 a.m. I will

drop walkers off at the north end of the bridge and make it back to wait at the

south finish line (with ice cold water) before they close the bridge to traffic. Af-

ter eating the brown bag lunch you brought for yourself (cooler

provided), we’re off to Alice’s Kandy and Korn and then we

head back to the church, arriving between noon

and 1 p.m. We ask for a donation to help pay

for the gas and bridge fare. If you would like to ride in the van, please sign up in the lob-

by. Space IS limited and the sign up sheet may fill up quickly! Contact Susan Wirgau if you

have questions—[email protected] or 231-838-5986. (It’s possible the list is already full

but there are spots to sign up if a cancellation comes in.)

Please check out the sign-up sheets

in the lobby.

In preparation for each rummage sale, we set up a table in the lobby with all of the lost and found items

since the last rummage sale. This includes unclaimed dishes which were used to donate food to various

dinners we have held, along with items on the coat racks, etc. Anything unclaimed by October 3, will be

put into the rummage sale. Please be sure to check that table for your own items (even if you think you

have none!), starting Sunday September 22.

LOST & FOUND

Plants & Flowers Welcome at Rummage Sale! How about bringing some cut flowers from your garden early on October 4 in your own

old vases or pick up vases from the rummage sale earlier in the week and take them

home to fill that morning to bring back to sell. Or do the same thing with cuttings from

your houseplants that need to be transplanted. Do you have any extra bulbs that people

could plant? Think outside the box for what to bring to donate to the rummage sale!

Next month is the fall rummage sale! The sale is actually October 4 & 5. We start work-

ing on Tuesday October 1, so be sure to put that on your calendar. Lots of help is needed for clean up

on Saturday, October 5 starting at 1:00 p.m.—come at noon if you would like to have lunch! Please

mark your calendar NOW! Sign up lists will be posted soon for working and for donating food to feed

the hungry workers. You may start bringing your clean rummage, in working order, to the Fellowship

Hall on Thursday, September 19. We are no longer able to accept TV’s—please do NOT bring them. If

you need to bring rummage before then, please contact Susan Wirgau to see if special arrangements

can be made. Some limited pick up of rummage will be available but the earlier we can get it sched-

uled the better. Contact the church office or Susan at 231-838-5986 or [email protected] by

September 27.

Clean up on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m. October 5 is becoming a larger task as our work crew is get-

ting older and by then is very tired from working all week. With a fresh, young crew coming in to

HELP, it can be done in just a few hours. Please consider putting this on your calendar NOW as a fami-

ly event and signing up so we know we can count on you! (If you come at noon, we will feed you a

fantastic lunch, too!) We also need people with vans//trucks to help deliver left over rummage to a lo-

cal cause that Saturday afternoon, Sunday afternoon and Monday morning. Please sign up for this op-

portunity also.

Please help another huge rummage sale be a grand success! Won’t you please be a part of this fun by

coming in for an hour or two and/or to donate some food? (You may also make a cash donation if

that is easier for you than shopping and preparing. We always have expenses.) You can sign up for all

of the work slots or just one or two. If you have questions, please contact: Susan Wirgau, 231-838-

5986 (text or voice) or [email protected] !!!!! Watch for the sign-up sheets to be posted in the

lobby for specific hours and food needs!!

Remember we feed workers and you get to shop while you work. Workers get to buy before the sale

opens; you get to choose from the cream of the crop!!!!

Wednesday Dinners

Wednesday evening dinners will begin on Sept. 18th

at 6:00.

We are asking church members to form teams of 4-6 people who will prepare and clean up a

meal. Volunteers should sign up for a date with the assigned menu on the sign up sheet located

on the bulletin board.

As done in the past, everyone attending each weekly dinner is asked to bring a side dish or des-

sert to pass. Come join us for a delicious dinner and fellowship!
